http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=22478 With latest ranking out on 28 Apr, number of players/pairs from each country is now confirmed according to the rules linked aboved.
Max. No. of players or pairs for each country in WC11: 4 if all ranked within top 8; 3 if all ranked within top 24; 2 if all ranked within top 150. Initial brief summary of major Asian entries: MS: INA 3, CHN 3, WS: CHN 4, THA 3 WD: JPN 3, CHN 3, KOR 2 MD: KOR 3, INA 3, CHN 2 XD: INA 3, CHN 3
MS: KOR will also has 3 representatives WS: Poor JPN. JPN almost has 3 player qualified for WS. Unfortunately, Ai Goto step down to 25th last week MD: JPN will also have 3. MAS, which was one of countries in MD last several years, will "just" have 2 WD: Although CHN has 3 pairs in top 24, I am not sure, all of them will play for WC. Perhaps only Xiaoli / Yu Yang Also, KOR seems will only has 1 representative as LHJ has been already retired And, quite surprising to realize that INA is the only country will probably send 3 WD pairs in WC this year XD: It depends whether He Hanbin / Ma Jin will play or not as (I think) Xu Chen / Ma Jin seems near to be fixed. Anyone can explain the rule? For INA, if Gunawan/Marissa does not play, will Rijal / Susanto be qualified or still in reserved list?
Korea easily has two pairs in the top 150, even without Lee Hyo Jung. Basically any combination with Jung Kyung Eun, Kim Ha Na, Jang Ye Na, and Kim Min Seo can be the second pair.
Aha.. sorry, I realize KOR has 2 WD qualified. When I wrote about WD, I was thinking about Olympic Games rules.
Ya, you're right. Even JPN has 4 WD pairs in top 16 right now. In my previous post, I did not include JPN in context. Thanks for adding information. Btw, I think JPN will try to secure 2 representative in WD event for OG 2012. To have 2 representative, JPN need to place at least 2 pairs in top 8. Right now, 3 are in top 8. But, JPN need a strategy to secure current standing. And, it will be not easy. Assuming CHN wants to have 3 representative, must place 3 pairs in top 4. In one year later, there may some siginificant change of standing for WD. And, for JPN, which pairs they want to send to OG 2012
Phase 1 Qualifiers (WR date 28th April 2011) taken from BWF website : MS -- http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33001 WS -- http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=32997 MD -- http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=32998 WD -- http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=32999 XD -- http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33000
So,INA has 3 MS (Taufik,Simon,Alamsyah), 2 WS (Linda,Firda),3 MD (Kido/hendra,Bona/Ahsan,Alvent/AG),3 WD (Greysia/Meiliana,Vita/Nadya,Suci/Della),3 XD (AG/Vita(?),Towi/Lilyana,Fran/Pia) Not bad
Some interesting parts: 1. Players who have been retired and qualified for WC: Wong Mew Choo Lee Hyo Jung When they do not confirm to participate, the place will not be compatriot's. This reason makes KOR has only 1 WD 2. Some pairs seems no longer play (most are CHN) Zhang Nan / Biao Chai Shu Cheng / Zhao Yunlei Pan Pan/Qing Tian Gunawan / Marissa He Hanbin / Ma Jin Lee Hyo Jung / Kim Min Jun My subjective opinion: I have feeling except KOR players in list I mentioned, other "old" players will still play in WC. For WD, I think CHN has goal to prevent other player, mostly JPN, TPE #1, and KOR #1, to grab bigger point in the tournament. If they just play WXL / Yu Yang, seems JPN pair has bigger chance to step up at least to Semi Final. WC is tournament that contribute biggest point for OG 2012 qualification (cmiiw) Preventing JPN, TPE #1, KOR #1 to be in position top 4. For XD and MD, the motivation is not really same. But, just my feeling, ZN/BC and HH/MJ will play. I also felt INA Marissa/Gunawan will play as both of them are independent players. If they choose not to play, INA will has only 2 qualified XD. Based on rule, they can not move their ticket to Rijal/Susanto INA XD #4 (in spite of top 24). Additionally, these 4 months, performance of Widianto/Marissa is not really satisfiable (just my imagination: may be having Marissa/Gunawan in XD and Widianto/Alvent in MD seems more promisable)
My feeling is that due to the points for Olympics qualification, INA will only send those players/pairs that are competing for the slots at the Olympics. MS - Taufik Hidayat, Simon Santoso (Alamsyah Yunus might go also, pending on funding from sponsor of course). WS - Adriyanti Firdasari, Lindaweni Fanetri MD - Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (pending on both players' conditions), Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan, Hendra A. Gunawan/Alvent Yulianto Chandra WD - Meiliana Jauhari/Greysia Polii, Vita Marissa/Nadya Melati, Suci Rizki Andini/Della Destiara Haris XD - Tantowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, Fran Kurniawan/Pia Zebadiah Bernadet
Actually, I have this wrong. The second pair cannot qualify if they're not in the top 150 but just being in the top 150 doesn't guarantee qualification. You have to be one of the top 44 pairs, too. For Korea, if they send Kim/Ha, as is likely, then the next two pairs (Lee/Kim and Ha/Jung) are not eligible because they involve either Kim or Ha, and the next Korean pair in the ranking is Eom Hye Won / Kim Ha Na at #65, but they would just sneak in as the 43rd eligible pair. If, since they both have new partners, they were not sent, then the next spot would go to Sweden's #2 pair at WR#78. So Korea can still have two pairs, but only if it's Kim/Ha and Eom/Kim.
Phase II http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33696 http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33698 http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33695 http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33697 http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=33699 MS D. Hayom Rumbaka (INA) will go to the WC, not Alamsyah Yunus (INA). WS No Ella Deihl (RUS) (retired already?) & Wong Mew Choo (MAS). In fact, MAS has no representative in WS . MD Confused already. It's Fairuz/Ong @ Zakry/Hoon (MAS) that will go to WC ? BAM, please clarify this... WD China teams include Cheng Shu/Zhao Yunlei & Pan Pan/Tian Qing (although they are not playing together rite now). Great stategy from LYB to prevent other nation from getting that valuable ranking points . XD No Korean reprentatives . China will playing He Hanbin/ Ma Jin also. Hendra Alprida /Vita Marissa(INA) will not go to WC.
but according to press, bcoz WMC retired, so M'sia can choose someone to replace her. so TJY will make the cut. I thought that's BWF fault.
I thought that's BWF fault . BWF allows National Associations to pick and choose their players. To me this type of selection is OK for inter-nations tournaments, like the Thomas Cup, the Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup. But for the World Championships, I look at this tournament as for individuals, not for countries. Therefore, qualified players should apply to participate in it. National Associations should be kept clear. .
