Zakry-Fairuz miss out We have already confirmed the top three pairs based on merit and Zakry-Fairuz didn't make the final list of qualifiers," said Chin Chai. "There are other major events like the Commonwealth Games (in New Delhi) and the Asian Games and they should focus on qualifying for those events." http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/nkeri9rjpir/Article
Good move by the BAM. There would probably be enough time for GTC/TBS to recover. And also, although personally I don't feel CTF/LWW or GTC/TBS will go far, it will send a message that one cannot hope to get in without merit.
Not necessarily Fuzzy go AG, with this Ng CC guy around and after the TC disaster. Those who support/campaign for them(NSC ppl included) also embarassed already .
let renew the record fuzzy(against back up/elite back up) lost to chan/lim(21/20) in terengganu open 2009 lost to kcc/tbs in penang open 2008(and both have quit bam now) lost to goh wei shen/ong jian guo in johor open 2008(both 18 in 2008) lost to mak/tan(1990/1989) in malaysia gp gold 2009 and tc simulation match lost to goh/teo(1989/1990) in kedah open 2010
And to think GWS just played a rubber game XD a few hours earlier but still can beat Fuzzy in rubber game.
not only national gp,mas gp gold is open 2nd,i did the same for koo/tan but only 2 back up pair beat koo/tan before(to be strict,mak/tan is in elite),so only gws/ojg beat koo/tan before
Senior doubles shuttlers get chance to redeem pride in Macau Fairuzizuan-Zakry went down to Goh Wei Shem-Teo Kok Siang and the defeat does not augur well for the a pair out to make a comeback to winning ways after struggling for some time now. They have been drawn to meet South Koreans Kim Ki-jung-Shin Baek-cheol in the opening round and they certainly do not want to suffer another demoralising blow. http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2010/7/26/sports/6733789&sec=sports will they?
why not? they have 2 ss title in their bag + one wc bronze how many pair can win 2 ss title? not more than 10 lol
Badminton: Zakry, Fairuz get new partners By Ajitpal Singh 2010/09/02 THE stormy three-year partnership of Fairuzizuan Tazari and Zakry Latif has come to an end. National chief coach Rexy Mainaky split them up in a move to revive their careers. It is a strategy that Rexy hopes will work with the 2012 London Olympics in mind. Zakry will forge a new partnership with Hoon Thien How while Fairuzizuan will pair up with Ong Soon Hock. Zakry formed a scratch combination with Thien How as Malaysia’s second pair in the Thomas Cup in May while it will be a new partnership for Fairuzizuan-Soon Hock. Rexy has entered Fairuzizuan-Soon Hock for the China Masters on Sept 14-19 while Zakry- Thien How will test out their new partnership in the Japan Open the following week. Zakry-Fairuzizuan were in their best form two years ago, when they bagged back-to-back titles in the Singapore and Indonesia Opens. A year later, the World No 21 reached the World Championships semi-finals before losing narrowly to eventual champions Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng of China. But Zakry-Fairuzizuan lost ground this year, suffering a series of early round defeats in major events. Their last title together was the low-rated India Open in June. Rexy said both pairs will be given equal exposure in tournaments in the hope that one will be good enough to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. The Olympic Games qualifying campaign starts next May. “I hope this new pairings will work out in the long term. We have to give them a few tournaments from now and see how far they can go,” said Rexy yesterday. “Fairuzizuan and Zakry both like to set the game and should blend well with Soon Hock and Thien How respectively.” A country can only have two pairs in the Olympics, provided both are ranked inside the top eight by the end of the one year qualifying period. http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/Zakry_Fairuzgetnewpartners/Article/art_print
The Star Online > Sports Thursday September 2, 2010 Coach Rexy breaks up Fairuzizuan and Zakry partnership By LIM TEIK HUAT PETALING JAYA: The inevitable has happened in an end to a three-year men’s doubles partnership between Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari and Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif. Chief coach Rexy Mainaky has given them new partners as he seeks ways to strengthen the elite doubles set-up with the 2012 London Olympics in mind. Fairuzizuan will pair up with Ong Soon Hock while Zakry will be charting a new career path with Hoon Thien How. For their own good: Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari (left) will partner Ong Soon Hock while Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif will team up with Hoon Thien How. It will the first time that Fairuzizuan will combine with Soon Hock but Zakry has played in a partnership with Thien How this year. Zakry formed a scratch combination with Thien How for the second doubles match in the Thomas Cup quarter-final tie against Denmark in May and they almost pulled the rug from under All-England champions Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen. Malaysia managed to win the tie 3-2 to reach the semi-finals. Zakry-Thien How were also in the line-up for the tie against China but did not get to play the match as Malaysia had been beaten 0-3. Fairuzizuan-Soon Hock will feature in their first international Open together at the China Masters scheduled for Sept 14-19 while Zakry-Thien How are down for the Japan Open the following week. Fairuzizuan-Zakry broke into the limelight in 2008 with victory over the higher ranked Chinese pair of Guo Zhendong-Xie Zhongbo in a 2008 Thomas Cup semi-final tie in Jakarta. They went on to capture back-to-back titles in the Singapore and Indonesian Opens. They also managed to reach the semi-finals of the world championships in Hyderabad last year, losing to eventual champions Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun of China to settle for the bronze medal. But the duo went through a lean spell after that and suffered a series of early-round defeats. There was further misery for Fairuzizuan when he was slapped a one-month ban by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for losing his cool against an unruly fan after a Thomas Cup Finals group tie against Japan. Fairuzizuan-Zakry managed to win at the second-tier international Open tournament in India in July but the writing was on the wall after the younger back-up pairs began making up ground on them. Rexy added that splitting the two pairs was not a temporary option but something that had to be done before the start of the 2012 Olympic qualification in May next year. “I hope these new pairs will work out in the long term. We have to give them a few tournaments from now to see how they perform,” he said. “We have to test them before the Olympic qualifying period begins. Fairuzizuan and Zakry both like to set the game and they should blend well with Soon Hock and Thien How respectively.” There is the world championships in London next year to aim for but the Olympics will be the bigger goal in mind. The challenge has been laid out as a country can only have two pairs in the Olympics and they have to be ranked among the top eight by the end of the one-year qualifying period. http://thestar.com.my/services/printerfriendly.asp?file=/2010/9/2/sports/6961454.asp&sec=sports
Fairuzizuan and Ong Soon Hock's careers should be over. Hoon Thien How and Zakry still have a chance. I expect HTH/Zakry to perform better.
Ya, I agree that HTH/ZAL have a chance as both are aggressive and rather good smashers. Hopefully, ZAL does not have the nagging injury to bother him.
http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2010&dt=0903&pub=Utusan_Malaysia&sec=Sukan&pg=su_02.htm Intv with Zakry on the split up. He feels sad have to split with Fairuz, Fairuz not only his partner but good friend. The rest is the usual - "but will look forward & do my best with new partner" Rather nice of him to say good things abt his old partner, considering the trouble Fairuz dragged him into with the TC incident.
Well, I think that Zakry is the better player among the two, Fairuzizuan is like the king of unforced errors and Zakry got into trouble together with Fairuz because Fairuz lost his temper...
