And that's why it would be disappointing if she lost. Sindhu shouldn't do good just at WC. What's even the purpose of playing this small tournament then?

And she didn't "barely" win. I mean she won the first set 21-10.

I watched the match. In first game , she mixed her game very well, her power play plus drops . But this is not her usual style, that's why, li michelle could not predict it very well. But in second game, Sindhu started like the previous game but once Michelle found her game , she started to catchup with sindhu and equalised the score. At that time, Sindhu completely switched to her usual power mode which is very much comfortable to Michelle, as she is used to it. That's why the score is close. Sindhu's basic game is not that good.

I haven’t seen the match but I going to speculate that if she changed her game style in the second set, she’s used it as a training exercise for a different style of game. That would prepare her against opponents where she would need to change tactics, perhaps sometimes within a match. This would fit perfectly with the purpose of playing this smaller tournament.

I think Sindhu is rather like Marin. Targets and peaks for those big tournaments. She’s not the type to be able to grind out consistent results tournament to tournament always getting to semifinal. She and her coaches know that and hence they have planned a different build up strategy with a longer term objective.

She almost lost the second game. That's why I said she barely won the second game.
It's very apparent that never plays to her true potential in any regular tournament, (and maybe that works for her). Over the years I've learnt to never expect any good results from her in any tournament which is not OG or WC.
