Japan, Korea skip this event and will opt to concentrate on two tournaments in following weeks, MAS Open Super 750 & SGP Open Super 500. India Open time-slot is back to March after last year shifted earlier in January, however it's still disadvantage schedule as most elite players make absence here. 2017 World Champion Viktor Axelsen, 2015 champion Kidambi Srikanth will be men’s singles star attraction following top-seed and defending champion Shi Yuqi had withdrawn. On top-half draw three home players Srikanth, Sameer Verma and the resurgent Sai Praneeth are grouped in same quadrant. Axelsen is drawn with Tommy Sugiarto, Thailand young star Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Prannoy, the last two names will face off in very first round. Home darling Pusarla V Sindhu will face Chinese armada that spearheaded by the left-hander He Bingjiao, another familiar names fill women’s singles line-up, Ratchanok Intanon, Zhang Beiwen, Mia Blichfeldt. On top-half draw, Intanon will be the frontrunner to advance into last round where top-seed Chen Yufei and local favourite Saina Nehwal pulled out. The Thai ace should be alert to Chinese second-layered players, Cai Yanyan, Chen Xiaoxin and Han Yue who might trouble her route to progress. A weak cast in men’s doubles and women’s doubles department where only few of top ten registered, Astrup/Rasmussen, Polii/Rahayu and Thailand combination Kititharakul/Prajongjai. In the absence of Japanese powerful WD, a bright prospect for top-seed Polii/Rahayu to extend their title, Chinese back-ups Li MW/Zheng Y will be their possible quarterfinal opponents. Mixed doubles presents less competitive landscape, Wang YL/Huang DP are tournament top contender, the Chinese duo only taking part one tournament (All England) in 2019 describing their slow down performance little bit post bagged the jackpot in Guangzhou Finals end of last season. Their major stumbling block will coming from Indonesian tandems Jordan/Oktavianti and Faizal/Widjaja. Looks like India Open can't attract many top players for years. Are there any factors contributing to these besides tournament scheduling?
Less prize money?? lol Well, its most likely because all these players have set their eyes on Olympics. They prioritize tourneys within Olympic qualification period that will take place between April 29, 2019 and April 26, 2020.
Then next year edition of IND Open Super 500 is expected to draw many elite players as its scheduled 24-29 March 2020.
Prize money is not the problem. If Shi yuqi participated in Swiss open where the prize money is only Approx. $11,000 dollars, india open offers you $26,250 . The scheduling of the event and olympics qualification etc plays a part in this.
It's difficult for players outside India's top 2 academies (Gopichand Academy and Prakash Padukone Academy) to get international exposure due to lack of funding. India has a lot of talent and many players have not had even one tournament abroad. India Open is very important for these players who mostly play the domestic circuit tournaments. Sarath Dunna beat INA's Yehezkiel Fritz Mainaky in 3 games. Kartik Jindal won a 3 game thriller and beat Sarath Dunna.
Because there is no Sri Lanka Super 100 or Pakistan Super 300? I have to say India is at a disadvantage due to its location (the distance from East Asia and Indonesia/Malaysia). With that logic, India should be popular among Europeans but of course most players prefer choosing MAS-SGP package. And top players are just cautious not to injure themselves since the Olympic qualifying period is next month. India Open 2020 will be full of top players just like 2016.
I think it's better to translate your post into English so everyone can understand your post. The links are fine.
Precisely, location. IND Open is stand alone badminton tournament in South Asia region so its relating with budget where most nations prefer to choose back to back MAS-SGP rather than IND-MAS. ROUND OF 32 (10.00am) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=03EA9D0E-12C8-4036-A647-00B2A7076209 What happens to court 4 as the local organizer only using 3 courts instead of normally 4? Women's doubles first round underlines Ponnappa/Reddy edge out higher-ranked Chinese youngsters Li WM/Zheng Y in close contest, 22-20 / 21-19. Meanwhile TPE latest duo Lee Y/Wang CL continue their Orleans Masters victory to eliminate 2016 All England champions Ivanov/Sozonov in thrilling match, 19-21 / 23-21 / 21-19. One more surprising result saw second seed Goh VS/Tan WK lost narrowly to INA independent pair Karandasuwardi/Pratama, 21-17 / 21-23 / 19-21.
I don't know. But, if you look at the matches today, many of them are on-paper lower quality matches which usually took less time to complete the match. Don't think that all of the matches will be finished at midnight.
I just hope Wang/Huang could take this opportunity and grab the title here since they haven't been around much this year.
Li Xuerui is doing all right, but Nichaon seems to have some difficulty reading LXR's game (haven't played each other since LXR's comeback ?)
