Most of elite shuttlers continue their trip to one of Europe top destination city, Paris but there're several notable names have withdrawn, defending champion Carolina Marin, Rio bronze medalist Nozomi Okuhara, former world Champion Ratchanok Intanon, newly-crowned DEN Premier winner Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, Indian number one Srikanth Kidambi, men's doubles top-seed Chai/Hong, Malaysian mixed doubles leading combination Chan PS/Goh LY.

Three-time OG silver medalist Lee Chong Wei who got shocking exit last week in Odense will be all out to defend his crown here. He's tipped to meet stern test at Wei Nan at last sixteen then Denmark Open runner-up Son Wan Ho in quarterfinal. Second seed Viktor Axelsen once again will take on Jeon Hyeok Jin and followed by most likely Lee Hyun Il, exactly identical scenario with previous week Premier event at homesoil. Both former champions, Jan O Jorgensen and Chou Tien Chen will see familiar foe at opening round to overcome, Marc Zwiebler and Vincent Wong respectively. Indonesia will be represented by their upcoming stars here, the young trio Ihsan-Jonatan-Anthony while China brings world number 6 Tian Houwei alongside with back-ups Qiao Bin, Shi Yuqi, Huang Yuxiang and Xue Song in their aces Chen Long-Lin Dan long break.

The in-form Japanese prodigy Akane Yamaguchi has Thai opponent in her path to quarterfinal, Porntip Buranaprasertsuk and Nitchaon Jindapol, then she's slated to face Sun Yu at final four possible scenario. Bottom-half draw contains almost same cast, rematch of Sung Ji Hyun v Tai Tzu Ying may happen at last eight while He Bingjiao has same quarter with her nemesis P.V. Sindhu. Who will seize the opportunity in this quite less competitive WS category to clinch Superseries title?

Recent All England champion will be one of the front-runner at upper-half of draw also other two seeded pairs as well, Pratama/Suwardi and last year beaten finalist Conrad/Kolding.Thailand well-improved pair, Isara/Phuangphuapet should be the pair to watch out. More challenging draw at bottom half, Rio silver medalist Goh/Tan, China rising combination Li JH/Liu YC, Indonesian promising duo Gideon/Sukamuljo and Danish veterans Boe/Mogensen fill the remaining seeding position.

WD top-two seeds, Matsutomo/Takahashi and Jung KE/Shin SC have opportunity to meet their teammates, Fukuman/Yonao and Chang YN/Lee SH respectively at last eight. Third seed Pedersen/Juhl have complicated test against the on-fire Supajirakul/Taerattanachai at second round, a pretty favourable draw for Maheswari/Polii, they should check into semifinal with two Chinese new experimenting pairs that may trouble them, Ma J/Zhong QX and Huang DP/Li YH.

World number one, Ko SH/Kim HN start their campaign to face tricky HKG pair, Reginald Lee/Chau HW then Lu K/Huang YQ in quarterfinal and either Fischer/Pedersen or The Adcocks at last four. Second seed Jordan/Susanto should clear preliminary rounds and set up a quarterfinal rematch with Chinese new star Zheng/Chen. Another quarter at bottom half will see the debut of Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui partnerships, they will be tested by the vast experienced Polish duo Mateusiak/Zieba at last sixteen.

Bad lighting and terrible camera angle. I mean just look at this sh!t. A mere look at this will turn your mood off. The half view of other two courts can mentally disturb you. Warning !

And all the best players are in their worst form. You can pick any player from the Book and he/she/They just don't look like their real self. Many 'Worth your money' stars are missing this year and that will probably make this the worst SS of all time.

Not to mention, Asian players are mercilessly booed here.

    I'm off. Not watching.

This camera angle is terrible. It only happened last year though, previously the camera work was excellent ; I don't know what went wrong.
But the crowd booing asian is just pure bullshit. Nobody has the notion of "Asian" while watching badminton in Paris, and Indian players would not be put with Far East ones in any cases. The French have no local player to root for, and they don't care other nationalities.
But every year there is a large crowd of Danish supporters who will support vigorously the Danish players, and this might have given you the impression that their opponents were booed.

Unfortunate. Brazilian player retires in the middle of 3rd game against Anthony.

Oh? A check at the how the score panned out revealed the Brazilian, De Oliveira, actually gave Anthony Ginting a hard time before before he retired (injured?), 21-14, 17-21, 14-11 (from 11-10).

Makes on wonder what the outcome might be if he didn't retire ,whatever caused it.

Even Khosit Phetpradab struggled against Lucas Corvee.

Lin Yu Hsien beat Anders Antonsen who acquitted himself quite well last week at the Denmark Open.

A bit unfortunate, for me, that Xue Song and Qiao Bin have to duke it out at the qualification stage.

    ROUND OF 32 (09.00am) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=4E92F62C-6537-425B-BE6E-925A82CB86BE

Mixed doubles first round matches have been completed last night except four ties that involving the qualifiers. Two seeded pairs of top half of draw bit the dust, the quite consistent Lu K/Huang YQ lost surprisingly to Japanese combo Kazuno/Kurihara while Korean Yoo YS/Chang YN were too hot to handle for English married couple, The Adcocks. Defending champion Ko SH/Kim HN also almost suffered early exit, they battle hard to eliminate Hong Kong Reginald Lee/Chau HW.

In MS qualification round, INA youngster Anthony Ginting was stretched by Ygor Coelho De Oliveira then the Brazilian conceded retired at mid of deciding game. Xue Song won over KOR Superseries winner Qiao Bin in two straight-games, also qualified Malaysian 2015 SEA Gold medalist Chong Wei Feng and TPE Lin Yu Hsien. Two Danish players, Anders Antonsen who entered DEN Premier quarterfinal last week and Thomas Cup winning member Emil Holst failed to clear opening hurdle.

Fu Haifeng is playing with Xu Chen because both are old already and in the verge of retirement. Zhang Nan can still qualify to play in Tokyo Olympics 2020 while Fu Haifeng and Xuchen is definitely out of contention. Hence Zhang Nan will be given a younger MD partner who will help him in the quest of playing MD in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Zhao Yunlei who is Zhang Nan regular partner in XD has already retired from playing international tournament. Hence Zhang Nan will be given a new and younger XD partner. Li Yunhui is not Zhang Nan permanent partner for XD. CBA will pair Zhang Nan with different XD player in order to find the most suitable player that can compliment Zhang Nan to play XD in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
