Does anyone have the original VT80 4u how does this compare to 88S 4u/88D 4u in terms of stiffness, speed, power & ease of use?
I've spent more time with the 4u 88D now and I can truly say it is much faster through the air than my 4u vt80. It is almost as stiff as the 80 and pretty close to my z strike. But it's much faster. It's hard to describe, but on my overhead shots, the frame is more aerodynamic so I need to start swinging sooner as I am getting to the bird faster. Defensively is good, I can get the racket to where I need it for smash defense or a quick touch for net play. It doesn't seem as weighty as the 80 or z strike and I have some issue with follow through a it does seem lighter in the head. For ease of use I'd say the 88D is far more forgiving than the 80. Power of course the 80 handily wins that one, but the 88D is there, it just requires a slightly different technique to get there. All that said, this is my own personal opinion and experience, so please take it as such.
Finally got hold of the 88S and played with it last night. My game was disastrous. Migrating from the AX77, the head speed difference was significant enough to put me on a frame hitting spree. I was just hitting the shuttle too soon. Frame hitting aside, I was able to react quicker. Net play was easier to execute and drops were more accurate. It has a more direct feel, like what you give is what you get. However, baseline clears and smashes does require a little more effort probably due to the lighter head and stiffer shaft. All in all, I am not looking back. The AX77 will have to go =D
I have 88d 4u, 88s 3u, voltric 80 4u Power: vt 80 > 88d > 88s Speed: 88d > vt80 > 88s (because i use 88s 3u) Stiff : 88s > vt 80 > 88d Easyto use : 88d > vt 80 > 88s
I've been playing with a VT-80 4U for a while, and I still love it, but I'm thinking about buying a "modern" version: is the 88D 4U the closest to it? I read many reviews where people complained that the VT-80 was tiring, but I never had this problem.
Shaft in my 88D has become loose in the handle making a creeking noise. Has anyone else experienced this? Approx 4 months old Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Yes, pretty normal . My ZF2 and z strike both have it. Actually, the glue breaks down and moves around, creating creaking sound.
My 88S so far is still ok. Dunno about my 88D as it hasn't been strung yet and I've not used it yet. Sent from my JSN-L22 using Tapatalk
Measured the head weight of my 4u 88d to be 40.5g (string+original grip). Is this heavier than normal?
I don't think that should be considered normal. If they ask us to pay so much for their rackets, we expect their products not to have glues breaking down or whatever. If they decide to design the shaft the way they are designed now, they should be able to guarantee the integrity of the construction under normal use. Sent from my JSN-L22 using Tapatalk
It's actually more like a clicking sound.. am I to believe this is harmless or send it back to manufacturer for review? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Clicking sound I believe is fairly common. It clicks at the cone area. I continued playing for several weeks and somehow, the click is gone. No more audible clicks thereafter.
I bought two at the same time, this one has alot more movement by the cone.. and feels completely different to the other Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
If you can handle the 4U VT 80, then 4U AX 99 would be the closest. Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
I have both a VT80 and 88D in 4u weight as well (I cannot speak to these rackets in 3u weight as I mostly play doubles.) You will find that moving from the VT80 to the 88D that the 88D is lighter and faster than the VT80. A large amount of weight feels as though it is just below the midline of the racket head. The VT80 has all the weight in the top of the head. 88D has speed and dexterity to spare. The VT80 cannot compare to the 88D in terms of sheer speed and how quickly you can move it around. I especially noticed this on the overhead swing. I was hitting the shuttle close to the top of the racket or rim. After a week of usage, I am getting better at timing, so there is an adjustment, but it seems as though the rewards are worth the effort. That said, my Victor TKF arrived yesterday!
