It was on my own racket. I add a few lbs on the last main and cross, combined with using a clamp to keep tension loss minimal. Sound advice from Kwun and DuckFeet, I will keep that in mind and make sure the loop is large enough to tighten by hand. Or alternatively rotate the clamp 90 degrees and using less force.
My biggest pet hate is when I get right to the end and tie off on the final knot..... For some reason, I feel this need to give it a little extra tug on Kwun's famous non-slip knot to ensure no tension loss on the last string.... and before you know it.... SNAP !!!!! right in the grommet.
When I nicked the string with my serrated pliers (accidentally poked it while getting string through shared hole) then the next day snap Using an awl for shared holes, I could never use my all its edges are too sharp and not pointy enough. String mover is the way to go
I've had exactly the same thing with BG66UM on the last tie off. Usually pulling the knot is fine but on one occasion a few months ago it snapped. I always hate stringing with BG66UM it always gives the most problems!
I've also broken that knot pulling the way Kwun does, now i do a rock and pull like you would a half hitch (tighten the loop by pulling towards the centre of the string bed).
:crying: ................LOL Just snapped one on the last tie off knot....BG66UM at 32lbs..... Arghhhh!!!!
I had the same issue once before. With JJS there are some grommet holes that are close to each other. 2 on each side up the top of the frame and 2 on each side at the bottom of the frame. What you need to do is cut out 8 short pieces of leftover strings. Slip them into between the strings and the frame you go from one grommet to the next. Do that with the other 7 spots that have grommets close to each other. They're usually 3 close to each other. By doing this, you don't need the piler or pick to make the grommet hole bigger. Hope this make sense.
When I was tying of the mains I used pliers to pull tension. Sting snapped, and i punched myself in the eye with the pliers, that was really unpleasant ...Now i always tighten by hand
Ow! Some lessons are learned the hard way. But with only two eyes, you can't afford to make that twice.
Strung my N80 with BG66UM (30 lbs) and an hour after that one of the cross strings snapped - just like that...
strung a ZF with NBG98 @ 26lbs. got to the 5th cross from the end, the cross string snapped upon tensioning.
Strung a racket and tied off all knots only to notice a misweave bang in the centre, managed to pick apart a knot and re weave the crosses only for the string to snap on the last pull where i had damaged to string with the awl.
while tensioning the last mains, the string got caught between the fixed clamp's teeth and strip the coating. it was not recoverable so i have to redo the mains and lost half a pack of string. luckily i saved up another half of the same model from another mishap so that worked out.
happens to the best of us. these days, instead of pulling the knot with a clamp. i pull it by bare hand and judge the tension by level of pain.
The usual for me (every 10 jobs or so) is at 33+ lbs on my own rackets just starting the crosses, the tension head decides that no, it's not fully tensioned while I'm moving the clamp into position and pulls again... With me using BG80, at that much higher tension it cuts straight through the mains and ruins the entire string job. (and often leaves me with a blood blister whip on my finger when it goes bang) Oh well, that's what you get with a £300 constant pull electric machine. Not as annoying as being on a customer's racket mind.
33lbs+ Would you like to share your pings? With BG80 I expect something Scratching or maybe breaking the 1400hz mark. Would be nice if you share your pings regular in the frequency thread.
I started to do that too, but one time it did snap when i was pulling with my hand haha. I was also using your no tension loss tie off, loving it. Best tie off ever haha
