Reading the Malaysian press today which said that WMC has become stronger by playing with the men who gave her no quarters during training. We have seen her beat the best in the China Open which was a mammoth task - can we expect that she will win that medal with the extra yakka she has put in so far. Misbun is very impressed with her workrate and indicated WMC is very capable. If she can repeat her efforts at the China Open, I am pretty sure she has a very good chance. According to Misbun, she is now being trained to do long rallies -- something that Tine Rassmussen is doing in her many wins. WMC, we wish you well - and like your 'men counterpart, LCW', I hope you would excel with the specialised training.
Happy to hear some news on WMC, I am very impress with her fighting spirit, I hope she can do the best in her dream olympic games with LCW.
Doing what? Training with men, long rallies? Whatever the case, it's been a while since MAS has put a contender on the WS map and I guess they're going all out to maximize on the opportunity. I'd like to see WMC do well. While she's not the most talented, she's got the guts and fighting spirit seldom demonstrated by her MAS peers. I feel the CHN gang and Tine are still the ones to beat though.
The boys alternating to play against WMC to test her and to push her to the limits. She has been sparring well and doing fine. Furthermore she has been rehabilitating her knees as well.
Xball, might as well just copy & paste the article (or is it in the News thread already?) : A stronger Mew Choo in Beijing By K. M. Boopathy NST, 2008/07/18 WONG Mew Choo is a perfectionist on court but this has brought her more disappointment than success. However, national singles coach Misbun Sidek reckons the Beijing Olympics will witness a changed Mew Choo, one who will battle hard to achieve her goals. Misbun said Mew Choo, whose strength is her smooth movement on court, gets frustrated when she makes unforced errors and often gives up but she has worked hard to change. Misbun has had Mew Choo focusing on long rallies in training, as this has been her weakness in the past. "The top players at the moment all rely on long rallies rather than opting for skills and Mew Choo needs to be solid in this area. "This is the change we will witness in the Olympics," said Misbun. "She already has variation in her game but she gets frustrated when she makes unforced errors. Players from China and Europe have this advantage and Mew Choo is now getting ready to play long matches. "Mew Choo has also been sparring with the men's back-up players and this has improved the quality of her strokes. "She is also physically stronger and is able to keep up with the men." The fact that China's top trio of Xie Xingfang, Lu Lan and Zhu Lin are all stroke players, has actually allowed a physically stronger Tine Rasmussen of Denmark to make a breakthrough on the international circuit this year. Zhang Ning, who will play in Beijing instead of Zhu Lin, is the only player who relies on skills and her smashes but the 33-year-old reigning Olympic champion is not the same force any longer due to injuries and age. Mew Choo is aware of this. "I'm getting stronger after training with the men. They hardly give me any chance in training and I have improved a lot," she said. "All I want is to maintain this performance and give my best in Beijing." http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Friday/Sport/2296573/Article/pppull_index_html _________________________________________________________________ Wasnt WMC already sparring with male players all this while, under Li Mao & Wong TM? Maybe the aspect Misbun focus on is different & the youngsters giving WMC a real test
yup, she's definitely not as skilled or as powerful as say XXF, ZL or Tine. but her stamina is amazing and her never say die attitude is commendable. i still believe the gold medal will be won by one of the 3 mentioned above.
Many have said it was because a lot of the players were not in form when she won the CO - so I could not simply say she will win if she repeats the effort. But of course, I think like you.
I Think the WS is the most open of all the disciplines. All three CHN selections could win it, WMC, TR, or even a Korean could possibly win it. All the possibles have their weaknesses.
Contenders to the CHN WS armada (in no particular order) should be: TR (DEN), WC (HKG), WMC (MAS), XHW (GER), PHY (FRA), JJY (KOR), HHY (KOR). It should be a very exciting event indeed!
Really?? I guess maybe KOR had only one spot. Well, even better... time to turn my attention back to JJY after a long absence.
Ha ha, esp with so many cuties for madbad to enjoy watching (you did say you dont discriminate cuties by country)
