I think I've missed the landing by a pound or two. I really find this string hard and am nearing the tension I use with zm62.

I'll go conservative on the next attempt and use it on plastics if too soft.

I've not used the new VS850 but the old VS850 certainly was not a hard string, in fact, it's almost soft in my opinion. It also stretches a lot, so like Mark I have to add an extra pound or two to get what I want.

But in the end I got fed up of the tension loss so moved over to NBG99 which I've stuck with since.

Ime, agree that VS-850 stretches a lot. The tension only held well for the first two wks. Tried 5% pre-stretch n it lost its characteristics...

Thats y switch to ZM65 now.

    Vs-890?

I was looking through Victor Asia's latest catalogues online and found reference to a VS-890. Couldn't glean much from the (picture of the) packet, but it's a 0.68 and listed as "HARD"...

... and "persistent tension". Was somebody listening to us?:)

From what I know, which isn't much, this string is supposed to be more durable, improved tension loss and my guess is that it can be strung to higher tensions. It may be replacing NS880 which I really like, however let's wait and see.

I hope not - 880 isn't the one that needs replacing!

I'm just assuming here but I don't think 890 can replace anything they have in 0.68 now. It just looks like it will be string for something else. If not maybe a 850 replacement?

    I think/hope it will replace 850, myself.

Obviously no one knows for sure apart from Victor, but it would seem strange for them to "replace" VS850 with this given that despite the flaws, VS850 is one of their best selling strings and people know the name. So my guess would be that they will add 890 to the range rather than use it to replace 850.

Hopefully Victor have taken note of the problems with 850 and working on improving it now.

Got my racket recently strung with VS850@25lbs, played my first game with it yesterday. My previous string was the Zymax 65, red. I use a moderately headheavy, 3U racket (Bonny Black Mamba). The shuttle feel, control and precision are just awesome, I found myself getting all the net shots and fast taps from the front court to get exactly where I wanted them to, although these strings are not as rough or textured as the Z65. Power though...if I hit the sweet spot, lots of power, and great sound, but this string is too hard for me; the vibrations and impact of the shuttle come striaght through to my arm. My arm is still very sore (could also be because I was playing after a gap and was using a higher tension than I'm used to). Going to get another racket strung with NS660ti and do a compare.

89 isn't the answer. Jury is out on #1 until I can try it higher.
