So right from the get go I have had issues with the clamping tension head. It sounds like there may be springs in it but I am not sure.

I have put maybe 50 rackets on this machine since purchasing a year ago. Is there a specific way to lubricate or to maintain the tension head on this model?

The tension head comes back in but doesn't actually let go of the string. I need to flick it back manually to release the clamp.

There are 2 springs between the clips and 18 bearing balls on the outer side of each clip. You can check if the springs are in place and try to clean the bearing balls. Sometimes loosen the 4 screws on the sides of the tension head a bit might also help.
