S owe know now - ASY and Momota will be the ones to watch on future tournaments ASY to see her in her fittest and Momota to see if he get back his form and fitness!!!
Maybe it will. It’s going to be an interesting run up to the world championships with the Indonesian tournaments right beforehand. Wonder how Kento is going to work on his game.
Kento Momota developed an attacking game post Indonesia Super Series Premier 2019 that is up there with Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and a (Viktor Axelsen that knows Momota doesn't exist) My jaw was on the floor when I saw some of his J-League matches. For the first time, I had seen a footwork that had even surpassed LD's to my eyes.
There has been progress, no doubt. However, just a few days ago, the (Danish) commentators said how much is missing in terms of speed, attack, accurary and so on. The same commentators said that VA was absolutely untouchable (this is a quote) at the moment. So when Momota loses it is convenient to say how bad he is and how he's never getting back and so on, but when he's up 22-20 and 17-14 against the "untouchable", he's suddenly, in the matter of two days, "back to his best", simply because people don't want to say VA is only winning narrowly against a bad version of KM. And as far as "almost no errors" is concerned, I'd say he let like 8-9 shots drop that he easily could have played but misjudged on. What's certain is that we'll hopefully get to enjoy more matches between these two in the future and that with KM getting better gradually, we might see even higher levels of play.
The commentators are just as clueless as you and me. They will say Cunning Linguist is the Greatest King walking on the planet when he/she is 20-0 Up against Nine Tailed Fox and then say Cunning Linguist is the worst to ever pick the racquet when NTF beats CL 22-20.
When was this? Please mention a few matches/tournaments he did that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm afraid VA now is the player to beat for every one. How long that will last is anybody's guess. But I'm certain he won't be dominant as Lee Zii Jia (not to mention Loh Kean Yew) and now Momota have demonstrated what needs to be done to beat VA. I'm thinking, just taking a stab, perhaps we need someone who has Momota's ability to play a meticulous controlled game cum good anticipation and Lee Zii Jia's attacking ability and defense (which is not yet at Chen Long's level, but possibly good enough) to beat VA.
There was one tournament may be Den open? after WC'19, he thrashed BSP with attack. BSP during bronze celebration interview claimed he know how to beat KM and that he had developed some tactics for KM and then gets thrashed utterly.
You mean the Danish commentators on the international feed right? I would have agreed with what they said a few days ago. If you had asked me Thursday, yes Momota was missing a lot in speed, attack and accuracy. But since Friday, he has been showing glimpses of his former level. But definitely not his stamina. The 8-9 shots he missed were missed because he was tired. Of course I am slightly coloured, but I wouldn't call this a bad version of KM. KM at OG was a bad version of KM. But there also seems to be a bias in the opposite direction: Consider this: If Momota never regains the position where he beats VA every time, will it then be because he never regained his former level or because VA has simply improved while Momota was out? Reading the comments in this thread up until game 3, there is very little acknowledgement of how much VA's stamina has improved. Some seem to not even be aware of it and still expect VA to run out of gas. VA's plan in this match was actually to play the running game (he said post match). I hope for a similar final at the WC, maybe with a closer G3.. but the same winner
I am a fan of both KM and VA but for this instance, I supported VA because it's his home tournament which he has never won and in front of his relatives and friends and also I sympathise with him on the H2H of 1-14 coming into this match.
