Hey guys while we keep guessing on who's going to eventually qualify for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Malaysia and keep scouring the net for little info that we find on the qualifiers I was wondering why in the first place the qualification process itself has been changed. I think the vast differences in standards between continents means the BWF has got it all wrong. Besides the host and the defending champions the rest of the qualifiers should be split according to world rankings not continents maybe 2 or 3 qualifiers around the world with 3 or 4 teams qualifying from each of the qualifiers. I think this was how it was done before this year. I hate to see teams like those from Oceania and Africa getting thrashed come May. What do you guys think?
may be you can post your thread here http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=248 that is sub forum for TUC oh, btw, I think it's OK... because we need to explode badminton all around the world... it's good for development of Badminton in countries that do not have a good history in Badminton
It's been the same as in previous T&UC editions.. ..let's compare with the World Cup (futbol), do you see any similarities or differences in their qualification process??..How about the countries/teams that will likely get thrashed come June??.. The reason why BWF has chosen representatives from (5) continents instead of world ranking is because BWF wants to show badminton has global representations. But if BWF intends to expand and widen the popularity of the sport, don't you think they should attempt to invest more in countries like Oceania or Africa? (same discussions in a couple other threads).. Btw, the current system/representation/process is the same as in previous editions: 2008 T&UC (12 teams/countries for each event): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Thomas_&_Uber_Cup 2006 T&UC (12 teams/countries for each event): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Thomas_Cup
