Tai Tzu Ying ( 戴資穎 )

Mechanically speaking, less strings means the string bed gets a bit softer. My own personal feeling is that it doesn't really change anything much, nothing you couldn't achieve with dropping the (cross) tension 3-5%.
Agree with the string bed in general, but the missing gap, with its location, will alter the vibration and concentrate the force in the supposed sweet spot.

Kinda like shoe laces. If you skip lacing in a pair of those holes :)

But better if someone here can let us know how her dad explained it! :D

If you skip lacing holes it's not true that the applied force increases at the other holes. You simply get less pressure in total. So basically it's another confirmation of @j4ckie's theory.

But I agree that it would be really nice if someone could provide a translation of her dad's statement in the clip.

Okay y'all tricking me. The strings/laces won't actually skip holes, but 'crosses'. It will make it looser overall but now, the vibration becomes unstable. The way she hits, with the reduced air resistance (maybe not by much) will give the impression that it has more 'umph' around the hitting area. My apologies if I'm confusing things :D

Who is this and what have they done to the real TTY?

Interesting concept that they Victor made her an exclusive kit design. Not sure if I like the design though. Shapes and colors seem totally random.

Oh... and there is another tattoo around her left ankle it seems. :)

We all knew TTY had a fabulous backhand. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen a female player from any discipline pull off such a natural, fluid, and powerful backhand smash for a winner.

The only way to get one cross less is by skipping one grommet. What you're saying about the vibration becoming 'unstable' is just not true or scientific at all. The reduction in air resistance is going to be completely insignificant. Please don't make up scientific sounding stories to sell some completely unproven hypothesis.
Personally I don't believe the missing string does anything positive, but since I have no scientific proof, I won't claim its a fact...just that I have no reason to believe otherwise.
The stories of players 'noticing a difference', I credit to placebo and them wanting to believe that it does something.
In the case of TTY, she might actually be able to feel a minimal difference compared to a normal string job, but the only negative effect I'll believe is that any abbreviation from the norm will distract her.

Since the skipped cross string is that far down, it shouldn't even produce a noticeable difference in tension, especially since the mains will be entirely unaffected (yes, the crosses will tighten the mains a tiny bit further, but that effect missing for one cross will be overall negligible).

Great example of loose grip for finger power...

Oh yeah, and look how far down she's holding the racket. That's how you create a big lever for maximum power.

A picture for the ultimate badminton textbook.
