smash-magnet guess what? got smashed at again, but this time, i'm sure this new fella did it unintentionally, also, it didn't hurt. when he apologised, i answered, "don't worry, it MUST happen to me each week"
But how did the person get to keep aiming at someone's face or body where most of the time we had trouble keeping our smashes in?
Dear Cendolabc, Don't turn angry. If your opponent smashes on your face frequently it means you allow him to do that. 1)Avoid mid court and weak returns 2)Avoid moving to the net always expecting net drops.A good lunge is enough 3)Don't take eyes from the shuttle cock and turn face. 4)Practice eye-arm coordination One day you can smash on the body of your opponent and immediately after the body shot say "sorry."
hey Joonu, nah,, my anger didn't last 10 seconds. I apply and learn life's philosophy while playing on the court. Know when to attack, when to defend... when fail to do so,- ponder why...and seek counsel... like what i did... thanks guys.. will note all the tips given. terima kasih ( thank you)
I never smash at the face............I do not need to. At the body is fine. Even seen anyone who has been hit in the eye with a shuttle? ouch! Why increase the odds of hurting someone like that. I know someone who is now blind in one eye, and can't play anymore. MORAL: If you want to hit someone in the head.........Take up boxing instead.
If it is understood that the best place to defend against a smash is not at the net, then the fear of being smashed at should never arise.
Sometimes I get hit on the head. Sometimes I hit people on the head. Often times me and my friends try our best to hit each other on the head, without success but plenty of laughter. It's all part of the game. Either learn to defend yourself or learn to find games that's on your own level. In a lot of social badminton where people are mixed up for the sake of mixing up, that's when accidents happen when the weak is pitted against the strong.
At my standard my defence has already been learnt........years ago. Trust me it is all fun trying to 'Tunnel' shot opponents in the head or face..........until someone gets hit in the eye........accidents happen though. At the speed i smash at...............i dare not aim at someones face.
At my standard, I have no accuracy. On the many occasions I hit people on the head/face, I did not aim for them. I smashed and their head/face was in the way. Accidents can happen whether you aim or not. The best approach remains that one should learn quickly not to get in harm's way. If you insist in waking on the road rather than on the side walk, then sooner or later you are going to get run over by a bus.
This is the new moral of the day An old team mates mother got blinded in one eye from being hit in the eye.........so i know the damage(permanant) it can do. So I avoid doing it on purpose at all cost.........I don't want something like that on my concious if i did it on purpose...........I would probably quit playing.
I played a friendly mixed doubles a while ago and hit my female opponent on the head with a smash down the middle. I apologised and we carried on. A few minutes later there was a weak lift and I thought I'd smash the return. I had a quick look to see that my female opponent was standing in the middle and aimed a smash down the left hand side. Problem was she saw me about to smash and stepped away down the left hand side to escape....and got hit again!
ahh head-shots....we actually had some sort of competition at my club. Was quite funny because 80% were all 'near hits'. I actually head-shot somebody from the baseline with a smash. that was real fun. mostly because it looked hilarious, but no harm done (I hope)
hahaha! that was fun and hilarious to you. i am sure cendolabc did not find any fun out of it being at the receiving end.:crying:
she laughed harder than me...and really, the shuttle had already travelled 2/3 of the full-court (me at the back-court, my victim midcourt) and I'm a weakling...
Aim between the eyes! I am more interested in scoring a point then trying to get a head shot or hit in general on the player. Smashing at opponents because of greater skill only lacks interest for badminton in general.
