as far as newcastle and sydney goes, all the clubs i've been to uses aeroplane. durability is avaerage but the quality of flight is really inconsistent. its like QC never exist!

I just played in CBA tournament last weekend, they used RSL official, speed 79. Apart from 79 being much faster than any shuttlecocks i've used in australia they were also very poor in durability. Considering in singles games we don't do any heavy smashing and very little mis-hits to the shuttle, an average singles game to 15 broke 3 shuttles, thats quite shocking. Speed 79 was so fast i could clear from baseline to 3m outside the court without even trying too hard :D, which was great when i played doubles... I've used RSL classic before, they were fairly good, normally lasted around a game of doubles, and yonex AS-50 depending on the players could last well over 2 games of doubles (they normally only break due to mis hits).

hmmm.. 79. it's not the right speed to use i guess. Right speed is depending on the temperatures of the area.
    Speed 76 is for 26 - 30 c
    Speed 77 is for 20 - 26 c
    Speed 78 is for 14 - 20 c
    Speed 79 is for 9 - 14 c
But remember, badminton is a interior activity, I don't think much of the interior in Australia will below 10 c.

Just finished reading the whole post :) Ok, Here is something you may already known but it's just for someone who not sure about it. Please let me know if I am wrong.

    (Speed 1 - 5) Japan Standard
(Speed 49-52) US Standard (Base on the weight of the shuttlecocks)
    (Speed 71-81) US/Euro Standard

Sorry there was a mistake in the pervious post, but following is the corret one, for more information, please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badminton#Shuttlecock

    1、Speed/Temp(C),76 / (37<>28); 77 / (27<>18); 78 / (18<>9); 79 / (9<>1).
    2、Weight(US)/Speed(Euro)/Number(JP),4.9/76/1 #; 5.0/77/2 #; 5.1/78/3 #; 5.2/79/4 #; 5.3/80/5 #

If you using the right speed could make your bird last for a long time.
Hope this info will be helpful and please correct me if I am wrong :).

Everyone here in my area uses the Green Aeroplane or sometimes Hi-Qua shuttles.

The shuttlecock speed at my club is either 78 or 79. I find 77 too show in Australia and IMO 78 is the best speed for Melbourne but it may be different for other cities in Australia.

I wouldn't buy RSL shuttles from Australia because it is too expensive here. Buying from oversea online shops can save you $10 per tube for RSL classic.

wingeebadminton and mybadmintonstore are the cheapest for selling shuttlecocks. There is a chance that ebay might have fakes but you also have to remember the shipping cost.

Try PROTECH shuttlecock. Good quality and price competitive. Top brand in Malaysia and Singapore. A lot of badminton clubs there using PROTECH shuttlecock.

    website: www. protech-sports.com

The tournament range (high quality) is about $18-20
The practice range (mid-high quality) is about $13-15
The practice range (lower quality) is around $10

Actually my uncle owns protech lar. So I always use protech..hehe...But really good in my opinion. I'm currently living in Melbourne. Now always get my uncle post shuttlecock to Australia to me...buying in Aus is too expensive....

My club is deciding if we should use Yonex AS50 as the main shuttlecock but we are not sure if it is worth the money.

That's the top of the range - international tournament grade.
If the AS-50 isn't worth the money, then what is?

The cost of AS50 is 2 times more than RSL Classics for our club.

No problem, but now I'm in Tasmania at the moment. Going back to Melbourne in 2 weeks like that...

If you can wait till I get back to Melbourne, I'll let you try the shuttlecock.

I always believe sharing is caring...haha....

I think I'll set up an ebay store so that people in Australia can buy Protech shuttles as well...
No point paying exorbitant price for some useless shuttles.

I have just created an ebay store (Protech Sports Australia) for my uncle.
    http://stores.ebay.com.au/Protech-Sports-Australia
Now only have 2 types of shuttles but more are coming into Australia.

Just buy 1 or 2 tubes and try, if you like can buy more.

Much safer to buy from ebay anyway, more secure. If you want more, can PM me also.
