I never even thought in my dreams that Subhankar Dey would beat Lindan in straight games. This is absolutely insane. Even Subhankar Dey would not have believed it.
Nothing surprising and not shocking either. Lately, Lin Dan is following Taufik's footsteps in getting beaten by any Tom, **** and Harry opponents. Anybody who plays Lin Dan knows they have a chance to beat him as long as they have the following: 1) the fitness/stamina; 2) the speed; 3) be prepared to run all over the place non-stop to retrieve all his shots, and with every shot you return, you increase your chance of winning the rally; and 4) be ready to seize the initiative to attack him, esp whenever you know he's going to lift the shuttle to the back, quickly get behind the shuttle and whack it down hard, because if you don't attack him first, he'd probably control the rally and finish you off instead. Generally speaking.
In G1 with Dey, Lin Dan reached three gamepoints, and he thought the winning point is a matter of course; probably relaxed a little and even lost some focus. The all of a sudden he lost five straight points on the trot, which pissed him off. In G2, Lin Dan soon fell behind, 12-7, 14-8, then he made the effort to draw level at 14-all, but after a short see-saw exchange, he became impatient, frustrated, and made a number of simple errors to find himself staring at four matchpoints against him. Desperate, he made another effort to save three matchpoints, but in the end, Dey's lucky net cord sealed his fate for a 21-19 victory.
Subhankar Dey : I am better than Lin Dan in every aspect of the Game. From footwork to Net Dribble, I easily outclassed Lin Dan thanks to my superior talent and artistic strokes. I was in third gear most of the time and pulled away whenever Dan took the bait. I made him look foolish at times and I believe if I was a bit more serious about the game, I would have likely gone on to win both Beijing Olympics and London 2012. For Dan had difficulties reading my game now, who's to say he wouldn't have the same back then. (An excerpt from Subhankar Dey's Secret Diary entries)
I don’t know why LD doesn’t just accept he is playing to honor a few of his sponsorship deals Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks to your sarcastic post. But i feel sorry for you. You started this thread hoping to see your idol taking the title. I did not even thought that he will lose to one of india's individual player. As far as i know dey is struggling to get sponsorships to play for his tournaments. That's why he stayed in Denmark to participate in european tour. Lindan's controlled game definitely need to be changed. If he play like this , i dont think he will cross the R1 hurdle in the coming Superseries tournaments, as he is slated to meet KM in both the tournaments. Sent from my SM-G600FY using Tapatalk
I wouldn't say it was as easily as you said it though. If it wasn't for a lucky net cord... things could haven different.
No need to, it's my Birthday today. With your blessings, I shall sail through this life overcoming waves after waves. https://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/index.php?members/
Indian media and corporates will ignore all this. Jwala gutta, Ashwini ponappa struggled for sponsors both pre and post their 2011 bronze medal winning feat. Indian media only focusses on stars like SN, PVS and KS. Even Kashyap struggled for sponsors during his prime. I hope things change for Indian sportspersons.
His life is somewhat peculiar. As you know, as a regular indian parents, his parents wanted him to get a job , but instead he left his home to his sister's home in order to fulfill his dreams. He started participating tournaments by getting some money from his sister but later he used his money from the tournaments for his expenses and finally he reached this level. Still trying to attain 'something' (i wonder what he will achieve when some of his compatriots are still in the scene). Beating Lindan in his lifetime is a milestone for him which many regular national level indian players still struggling to attain.
In the match, you could sense that every time Lin Dan stepped up his game , he could pull away or close the gap, but each time he did that, he would immediately ease off. He was pushing his luck too far and paid the price for it,even showed his frustrations in the end.
VA should start a merchandise store for second tire players With some business model, I am sure they can get quite generous amount of money
