i was stringing a racket for a friend (B, feather, hardhitter/slicer) and when i used an awl on a shared grommets i thoguht i felt somehtign weird, couldn't see anythign though....

shoudl I cut it out (it's now finsihed, lying on a shelf) and start new..
or give it to him, and tell
    give, don't tell

and: when can you tell you poked the main string? doesn't awling always involve soem damage to the string already inside?

are there nay stringing-practises to avoid awling?

You probably have frayed the string which means that it will break on a mishit.

To avoid awling, pre-string the racquet beforehand.

I agree, the same used to happen to me (most to times when I was only done). Last week, when using an awl while tying of my crosses, it snapped, had to start all over :(

So from now on, I pre-string, no doubt about it

This is the best advice. I always do that...when I wait for a court so it saves me time, really doesn't take me any extra time because I'm waiting anyway. :)

Pre-stringing your racket is just that. Before you put the racket on the stringing machine, you pre-string, you string the racket first. Then you put it on your machine and tighten.

    ok, will try
i heard another method teh other day:

strign teh mains form teh inside out, and whiel doing so: pull threw teh crosses where you need "at teh moment before you tighten it" so you shoudl never have to awl..

    is that about teh same?

when i prestring liek that it's a reall pain in teh but to pull threw the crosses when tensioning...how do you do that?

Man, you are asking for it. Here is the instruction.
    1) Pull about 20~30cm of floss from the container. 2) Wrap around your fore finger on each hand. 3) Force the floss between your teeth. Move back and forth to clean your teath. Don't you see Cooler is showing off his nice and clean teeth?

Enough of joke. I post instructions and pictures on how to use dental floss to help string badminton racquet before. Do a search and you will find this one

Remember, clean teeth are important for a healthy smile.

Pre-stringing is a pain? You are not doing it right then. If you pre-string the racket correctly, the actual process of stringing the racket will be seamless. :)
