Since 1987 inauguration edition, many famous shuttlers had tasted victory here from past generation to date such as Misbun Sidek, Yang Yang, Zhao Jianhua, Taufik Hidayat, Zhang Ning, Chen Jin, Lee Chong Wei, Wang Yihan, Ahmad/Natsir, etc. Last year edition of Singapore Open ranked 9th for World Best Press Facility by AIPS polling, a proud accomplishment for badminton itself to compete with other sports. Looking at MS draw, it's no less competitive will be happened in the absence of two iconic names, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. A series of current high profile players like Chen Long, Jan O Jorgensen, Srikanth Kidambi, Chou Tien Chen, Son Wan Ho are ready to rock SIS along together with string of the underdogs. Last year winner, Simon Santoso must start his campaign from qualification once again due to his low world ranking. Both Carolina Marin and Li Xuerui skip this event, followed by Saina Nehwal latest pulling out but no worries as WS discipline still has strong line-up, Chinese two Wangs, Shixian and Yihan, Tai Tzu Ying, Ratchanok Intanon, Korean duo Sung Ji Hyun-Bae Yeon Ju also Japanese talented stars Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara will spice up the competition since beginning. Sunday's final painful losing for world #1 Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong may be redeemed in Singapore as barring any upsets the formidable Korean pair is slated to meet their nemesis Ahsan/Setiawan in last round. Some combos who considering will trouble both top contenders are Endo/Hayakawa, Ivanov/Sozonov, Conrad/Kolding, Fu/ZHang, Lee/Tsai, Chai/Hong. Defending champion Cai Yun/Lu Kai has steep road to repeat their 2014 big achievement. It's busy week for some shuttlers to participate three Superseries in a row including Japanese leading WD, Matsutomo/Takahashi and Kakiiwa/Maeda. They will face stiff challenge from CHN and KOR new scratch pairs who started their experiment last week, Chang YN/Jung KE delivered positive note to manage second position in KL. First debut of Huang Yaqiong/Ma Jin, it's quite long time that double specialist Ma Jin is concentrated for XD only as the last time she played WD was French SS last November, paired up with Tang Yuanting. Fischer/Pedersen and Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin are the notable absentee in XD department as almost all MAS Premier participants fly directly to SIN SS. As usual two China premium pairs, Zhang/Zhao and Xu/Ma plus 2014 champion Ahmad/Natsir will be the pair to beat by others. The last withdrawals in main draw according to latest ts.com updated : Tommy Sugiarto (INA), Sho Sasaki (JPN), Saina Nehwal (IND), Michelle Li (CAN), P.V. Sindhu (IND), Sudket/Saralee (THA). Tuesday programme : Qualification & XD Round of 32 (except four matches which involving qualifiers) Order of play (09.00am local time, 4 courts) : http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...0297AC-79BF-4735-AA2E-FC458AFFA7DC&d=20150407

SSP tournaments seem sucking out the life out of adjacent SS tournaments a little bit. It puts pressure on SS organizers to do more to attract players.
Hi Loh, Saina:"I am just too tired to play in Singapore. Playing back-to-back tournaments have taken a lot out of me. So it is tough to play three tournaments at a stretch," She will play in the Asia Badminton Championships. PV Sindhu has just started training after her stress fracture. Expect her to struggle until the World Championships. Why did Derek Wong not play in India SS or Malaysia SSP? He has to get through qualifiers for the main draw. It would have given him match experience and confidence.
I don't exactly know why, but I notice that those that he played in earlier on, he did not do well. I guess it would be better for him to train harder to regain his confidence. His best performance so far has been during the last Commonwealth Games where he won the MS silver medal. And he has to do well during the forthcoming SEA games in June, as it will be held on home ground. I'm afraid Derek has not been able to inspire his fans this year and he really has to buck up.
Talking about ranking, last year's MS winner, Simon Santoso who defeated LCW in the finals, had to start the arduous journey again as a qualifier. He must have been kept out of the major tournaments mainly because of injury. Champion a year ago and now just a qualifier! He said he wanted to win again during a press conference. But just take a look at the MS seeds, it will be an almost impossible task for him especially when CL has returned after an absence of 5 years I heard on TV. SS has to play at least 2 extra matches to advance to the main draw. How unnecessary, had he secured a higher WR. It is the same for veteran Boonsak of Thailand. So having a high WR is important. For LCW, he will get extra bonuses if he can remain WR1. Not forgetting the sponsorship money and commercials that can yield much higher than the prize moneys.
I think it was mentioned somewhere that Simon had suffered Dengue fever. Hence his absence from tournaments.

This is incredible irresponsible. Tee has a muscle injury last week and she is still playing this week. This girl is in for early (permanent) retirement. BAM should be held responsible for the athlete's health.
Off topic. Saw JOJ on channelnewsasia this morning. He was wearing a Yonex shirt and an adidas sports shoe. Nice bloke.
Probably the reverse. The commentators said Xu Chen was not well at All England. On the other hand, XC/MJ may not want to see ZN/ZYL again. Since their first round loss at Indonesia Open last year, ZN/ZYL are on a 37-match winning streak.
First time seeing so many MAS flag on the left side of the table. Yeah..I know it is just the qualifying rounds.
this is because they failed terrible in Malaysia Open SSP, now they have to make themselves right here in Singapore Open SS...
The other teams should think about that. There are surely a tactic that could help stop that run of victories.
