Injury knocks Zakry out Sunday, 04 January 2009 By : Ajitpal Singh This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it A knee injury to Zakry Latif (left) has forced him and partner Fairuzizuan Tazari out of the Malaysia and Korea Opens. A knee injury has floored doubles ace Zakry Latif, effectively ruling him and partner Fairuzizuan Tazari out of the Malaysia Open, beginning on Tuesday, and the Korea Open on Jan 13-18. Zakry, who has been experiencing nagging pain in his left knee for months, has been advised by doctors to rest for two weeks. "I aggravated the injury during the Super Series Masters (Kota Kinabalu) and it has been troubling me since. "Tests revealed that I damaged my meniscus but it's not serious. I don't need surgery," said Zakry yesterday. "The swelling was bad last week and I had to use a walking stick for two days, I'm pretty disappointed as we were looking forward to a good start to the year." Zakry, 26, made his decision to withdraw from the tournament after a one-hour training session at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday. "I tried my luck on court, hoping I would be fit enough for the tournament, but I could not continue. "I informed my coach (national doubles coach Rexy Mainaky) and he accepted my decision. "Rexy advised me to rest as aggravating may damage my knee further." Zakry said he will likely return to light training in two weeks. "I will have to work on my fitness when I return. We should be ready for the Swiss Open and All England in March." Zakry-Fairuzizuan, who bagged the Indonesia and Singapore Open titles last year, were the fourth seeds in the Malaysia Open and were drawn against Indonesia's Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan in the opening round. Berita Harian also covered the story, with comments from Rexy. Rexy tried replacing Zakry with another player but too late to do so since the draw is already out : http://www.bharian.com.my/Current_News/BH/Sunday/Sukan/20090104080748/Article/print_html Also means Zakry's XD slot with his sis will be vacant (?)
According to my source Zakry's injury is not serious. He will not play in Mo and Korea Open so that he can recover in time for All-England and Swiss Open. He is fine and I hope that he recovered for the rest SS series.
Wong Mew Choo is having her usual stem cell jabs to her knees and doing some physio. She will concentrate on recovery this time and hope to be able to make it for ALL ENGLAND.
