Chen Jin, the champion of World Junior Championship 2003 and 04 and also the rising star of China lost to Jang, Yoong Soo of Korea tamely, only managed to earn 2 and 3 points in both sets, that surprised me quite a bit! Most of the men's single games will be played later on.

a brief search shows that Jang Young Soo isn't easy meat. he beat Roslin in the ABC last year and lost to Sony Dwi in 3 sets in the China Open.

I can't image what happened with Chen Jin.
I think the score can't show his true level!

It says the match lasted 45' however, so it musn't have been so easy for Jang Young Soo, though the final score is rather harsh for Chen Jin!

Except the first round clash between Simon Santoso and Agus Hariyanto, I can't see many interesting matches for today...

Either some injuries, or he was thinking about the upcoming CHN new yr. ;) And don't forget the "home court advantage" might be really important for the young players.

Jang Young Soo (KOR), who eliminated Chen Jin in the first round on day 1, lost to Sairul Amar Ayob (MAS) on day 2 12:15, 17:16, 12:15.

Sairul Amar Ayob is the ex-MAS national whom Yap Kim Hock is trying to woo back into the national squad.

I was also surprised that Chen Jin lost to Jang although the time taken of more than 40 mins did not reflect the poor scores received by Chen. But here again, Jang lost to Sairul, who is a steady and experienced player but not quite of star quality, IMO.

Someone recently posted (kwun?) that China's chief coach, Li Yongbo, did not think that China's current youth squad comprising Chen Jin and co. is ready to take over from the seniors and probably he is right! ;)

It would apprear that the Koreans are no pushovers, granted they are playing on home ground and without some of the better known stars of world badminton being represented, esp the senior Chinese team. :D

Chen Jin was crowned in Jerman and Polland Open last year (although it is only 1 or 2 star tourney), I am still puzzled at his loss to Jang. I agree with you that Sairul Amar Ayob is not of top notch quality, see if he will get passed Roslin Hashim later on today.
