    Bengawan Solo

Our choir will join you guys at Solo via its famous song which we will present at a Nurses Award Night on 21 Nov. As we sing, dancers will appear in front of us on stage to do an Indonesian number.

We will sing folk songs of some other Southeast Asian countries who have allowed their nurses to work and help the sick in Singapore hospitals, nursing homes, old folks homes, etc. Traditional dances of the respective countries will be presented as we sing along:

    Indonesia - Bengawan Solo
    Philippines - Dahil Sa Iyo
    Thailand - Loi Loi Krathong
    China - Patriot Heroes
    Malaysia - Rasa Sayang
Theme Song - Nurses Who Light Our Lives

    As for Bengawan Solo:

To avoid the 'sleepy' feeling that many associate with the song, we have given it a lively Latin rhythm, close to the Rumba.

The men, Tenors and Basses in harmony, will begin by chanting crisply: "Ben-ga-wan So-lo, Bengawan.....(for 14 bars)".

Then the ladies will emerge with their melodious voice on the main verse whilst the men continue chanting:

    Ladies:
    Bengawan Solo,
    Riwayat-mu ini
    Sedari dulu jadi
    Perhatian insani

    Musim kemarau
    Tak brapa air-mu...
    Di-musim hujan air
    Meluap sampai jauh

Then the men's turn to sing the main part while the ladies support in the background.

    Men:
    Mata air-mu dari solo
    Terkurung gunung seribu
    Air menga lir sampai jauh
    Akhir-nya kelaut

    Ladies:
    Itu perahu
    Riwatyat-mu dulu
    Kaum pedagang slalu
    Naik itu perahu

Then there will be a repeat of the main parts for the men and the ladies before the song ends off with the hypnotic chanting for as many bars.

Its going to be a joyous evening of songs and dances! :D

Potentially explosive quarterfinal matchups in WS!

I have not seen the draw, but a friend who did see it informed me of the potential quarterfinal matchups... I believe we will see explosively close matches in WS! :D [I happen to like INA WS category a lot, he he he...] :p

[1] Maria Kristin Yulianti vs. [8] Fransisca Ratnasari
[3] Pia Zebadiah vs. [5] Maria Febe Kusumastuti
[4] Rosaria Pungkasari vs. [7] Sylvinna Kurniawan
[2] Firdasari vs. [6] Maria Elfira Christina

All eight are in the same skill level, with Maria Kristin and Firda being the best 2 for now... All 8 seeded WS players are from Jakarta's Jaya Raya [DKI] club and Central Java's Djarum [CJV] club... These 2 clubs are the most productive in creating top INA WS... :) I am personally rooting for the tripple-Maria-s [Maria Kristin, Maria Febe, Maria Elfira] to go as far as possible...

Dark horses: Belaetrix Manuputty, Silvi Antarini, Aprillia Yuswandari [Semen Gresik, EJV], Yuan Kartika [Tangkas Jakarta, DKI], and Febby Angguni...

    World-class clashes in MD!

Another category that is very exciting to me is MD... :D In the quarterfinals, we expect to see some world-class clashes:

    [1] Kido-Setiawan vs. [6] Wifqi-Alfiat
    [3] Joko-Hendra vs. [5] Bona-Ahsan
    [4] Rian-Yoke vs. [8] Bambang-Trikus
    [2] Luluk-Alven vs. [7] Fran-Rendra

Disclaimer: I heard the matchups over the phone, so I cannot accept any responsibility for any misinformation... Ha ha ha... :p

    Kido/Hendra vs Wifqi/Afiat -- interesting...with the World Champion triumphing
    AG/Joko vs Bona/Ahsan -- good matchup
Rian/Yoke vs Bambang/Trikus -- the Djarum pair will take it
Luluk/Alvent vs Rendra/Fran -- Djarum might just edges it and ensures one representative in the Final.

I don't think Fran-Rendra can defeat Luluk-Alven this week... maybe next year... but hey, who knows?!? I am a terrible predictor of match eventualities... Ha ha ha... Except if the match is between me vs. Taufik/Sony/Simon/Andre... then I am 100% sure they will beat me...

(A bit off topic), May I suggest you not to bring "Rasa Sayange" in Solo as Malaysian representative song? Indonesian public would never accept it to be claimed as Malaysian song, I suppose..try to find another Malaysian song would be better alternative :)

It's time to get rid of Anggun Nugroho out of Pelatnas

The favorites in XD should stroll through, although Flandy/Vita might be stretched by Yoke/Mel.

Interesting matchup between Rani/Endang and the newly crowned Vietnam Open champion, Nathalia/Yulianti. Also, it should be Jo/Greysia vs Devi/Nadya ?

Yes I read that it is a sensitive issue.

Nevertheless we love to sing both Indonesian and Malaysian songs in Singapore, including some easier Indian numbers. Hopefully songs and music should not have to cross political barriers. :)
