lyd and yys rely on long rallies to whittle down opponents. That requires stamina, defense, consistency, which requires peak conditioning on top of youth. Older players who are effective require a game predicated on racket skills, raw power, and risk taking in order to keep rallies short, which is why you see guys like kims or setiawan/ahsan handling age better.

They did choose that, yes, but they had to go to court against the ntl. federation in order to get them to actually register them in intl. tournaments. It used to be that you had to be part of the ntl. team in Korea in order to play tournaments abroad, the ntl. federation just wouldn't register you otherwise.

I think the system in its current form (where players have to go through their ntl. federation in order to participate in international events, even if they're independant) should be reworked by BWF, as it gives way too much power to the national governing bodies, but then again that would require a certain level of care and competency since you'd have to design a new system and simultaneously care about independant players...also might anger some of the more controlling ntl. federations

So they went to court and won, so they can now participate in international tournaments? Why is it that they are still not really playing in many of them then, we talked about sponsors previously. I would think especially for the decently ranked ones like ko/shin, all England, world championships would be like a muz do especially after winning the French Open. I wonder if any independent players would be selected in the Thomas Cup team?

Badminton is not a rich sport in the first place. Prize money can’t sustain a lifestyle. Sponsors don’t pay enough.

Covid wrecked a lot of plans, especially those who are self funded without a safety net of the national association.

Covid meant a lot of tournaments were cancelled.

World Championships don’t give any prize money - there comes a point you have to earn enough to pay for your family’s food.

Thomas cup doesn’t pay any prize money. We don’t know if the association will pay for expenses for those not on the national team. I don’t think you’ll find any independent players going.

So are they working regular jobs then or training full time? Where would their income come from then if sponsors are insufficient.

it would be really sad if the association doesn’t post for expenses for things like Thomas/uber cup

Most Korean players play on teams in their national league which pays some. In case you aren't aware, the independant players have to pay for flights, hotel etc, which can sum up pretty quickly. Prize money only covers the expenses once you're getting to certain rounds, also it takes you away from home - not sure whether Ko and Shin have ties there, whether they want to travel a lot, etcetc
Lastly, they're not the youngest anymore....might not want to play a high volume of tournaments in order to presere the body...

    I have an idea:

We should change the angle of the camera. We see WD boring because It's slow, but actually It didn't slow as we thought. (just slower than MD).

I think most of WD's matches are faster than our matches.

Just change the camera's angle, then our problem will be done.

Both WD pairs below, in the video clip played faster than we was playing daily.

That's a very outside the box, but creative solution. Giving variety in spectator angle should be seriously considered.
