N0.They are no any relation. But maybe they are household five hundred years ago according to Chinese colloquialism. I think more than several ten million Chinese's family name is "Chen".
Yeahh...Well done, Ah Chai and Ah Keat! Hopefully the result on the site is correct. I don't think my young heart can take another insult in such a short time. Yap Kim Hock should field them in the TC instead of Chan/Chew. Go, Chai & Keat, be cool & steady!
And, guys, thanks for the answers regarding "Chen". I just can't help thinking that they might be related like the Sidek brothers and Hashim brothers. May be it's just a phenomenon in Malaysia only.
Also remember that China has 1.3 billion people. You are right Justice, I think Gan/Koo will surpass Chan/Chew after this victory. Although it is just a small tournament, this win will increase their confidence. If they can improve their combination and power, this pair can go very far.
great to hear our local boys won their first international tourney. i'm sure they are happy and full of confidence right now. hope they are also going to play in Japan open.
Congratulations to Gan/Koo! Yap should know better which pair to field in the TC. We need a strong second doubles to give our opponent a gun run for their money. The finals of the TC 2 years ago was like a “cooked duck flew away” and the doubles did not execute their assignments effective enough. Moreover, Chan/Chew seems to have problem playing doubles especially those from Indonesia and Korea. They need to regain their killing instinct fast. For Gan/Koo, the young bloods and the coach should put in hard work to shape the pair up physically and mentally. They surely need to inject more combinations and power into the their game. On top of that, they should be flexible in term of knowing which tactics work for which team, But, don’t stress them too much. Lee Wan Wah always looked so stressed playing big matches. Guys, just relax and try to enjoy the game. But, don’t be too complacent when we are up against our opponents. (Sorry, Yap, for my 2 cents. Of course you know it better.) Go, Malaysia!
here is the finalists and the results: MS CHEN Jin (2) (CHN) beat JOPPIEN Bjoern (GER) 15/9 15/5 WS PI Hongyan (FRA) beat. Chen Lanting (CHN) 11/5 - 11/8 MD GAN Taik Cha (MAS) / KOO Kien Keat (MAS) beat: LARSEN Jesper (DEN) / FISCHER NIELSEN Joachim (DEN) 6/15 - 17/15 WD DU Jing (CHN) / YU Yang (F) (CHN) beat: FENG Chen (CHN) / PAN Pan (CHN) 5/15 - 15/4 - 15/6 mixed XIE Zhongbo (CHN) / YU Yang (F) (CHN) beat ZUEV Nikolaj (RUS) / YAKUSHEVA Marina (RUS) 17/16 15/9
notables are : Chen Jin never drop one set throughout the tournament. 3 out of 4 WS semi-finalists are Chinese, all B team players. although they bowed down to Pi in the end. Gan/Koo only dropped one set during the tournament
Finally we see some lights at the end of the tunnel, right? Hopefully Coach Kim Hock agrees with your and others' suggestions. Also, hopefully the young guns do not keep the backup-squad mentality. They should believe they are one of the best doubles now and is more than capable to challenge the world. I am sure the coach will give them plenty of chances in big tourneys. Guys, time to do big kills! Rival teams, watch out from now!
Anyone knows why the is a (2) behind Chen Jin's name? I'm guessing there is another Chen Jin outside there. Or perhaps it is to say that Jin is pronounced as the second ... (accent?) in the Hanyu Pinyin. Even stranger, how come there's an (F) behind the ladies doubles player's name? Female?
I disagree with you guys about this. Firstly, the French Open is not a good yardstick although Gan/Koo does show a lot of potential. Secondly, Chan Chong Ming is recovering from injury. Chan is a very formidable player and Chew can be very good at times. So, I think Malaysia has 3 strong doubles players. Yap Kim Hock will have a headache when he chooses his Thomas Cup lineup, but it is the kind of headache other coaches will envy. It also means we have more options to do same thing as we did against China in the Thomas Cup qualifying final, ie. break up pairs to form a strong second doubles.
Yes, there is another chinese player named Chen Jin in 1980s. and also there is male chinese player named Yu Yang, and now he is chinese team's coach.
Good analysis, hcyong. It's good to have 3 pairs to choose from. Let's wish Chan recovers soon and will give good showings. To have different pair-ups among the 3 doubles can be positive and flexible in dealing with different teams, also to train up players' adaptation to different partners. Coach Yap Kim Hock, you have done a good job and we count on you!
