Nothing to say about it. The English pair is definately stronger. KKK/WPT's game is easy to read and the english capitalise on it. The coordination of our players is out. But credits to them for making this far! Salute!

They did make alot of unforced errors, especially KKK. But Clark/Kellog played very well too! :p

    Badminton: Koo-Wong make tame exit

MALAYSIA’S campaign in the 2006 World Championships in Madrid is over.
The country’s last hope, mixed doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty fell in the semi-finals yesterday.
[IMG] DISMAY: Koo Kien Keat (right) and Wong Pei Tty react after their loss to England’s Anthony Clark-Donna Kellogg at the World Badminton Championships.
The Malaysian pair failed to emulate their heroic feat of the previous two days of the competition and lost meekly 14-21,12-21 to England’s Anthony Clark-Donna Kellogg.
And Kien Keat will have to bear much of the blame for the defeat as he failed to show his prowess.
The English pair, especially the efficient Kellogg, carried out to perfection their simple game plan of minimising Kien Keat’s chances to attack from the baseline.
With the English pair aiming their shots at Pei Tty, a desperate Kien Keat ended up trying to do too much and failed to get the Malaysians’ game going.
In the first game, the Malaysians had a slow start and found themselves trailing 8-16 before staging a mini fightback. But they could only close the gap to 12-16 before Clark and Kellogg raced away to a 21-13 win.
It was the same in the second game as the national pair trailed 5-15. The English pair could afford to ease up a little and were still good enough to clinch a place in the final with a 21-12 win.
“I am very disappointed that we lost so easily,” said Kien Keat. “We ran out of ideas as the English pair prevented us from playing our normal game.
“When nothing was going right, we began to lose our confidence and I could not even get my service right. Towards the end, I was playing like crazy and tried to do everything at once.”
His partner Pei Tty added that when nothing went right for Kien Keat, who has always been the dependable half in the partnership, they were doomed to fail.
“We wanted to enter the final very badly but it was just not our day. Kien Keat was also not his usual self today,” said Pei Tty.
“But we are satisfied with our overall performance in the world meet as we never expected to return home with a mixed doubles’ bronze medal.”
En route to the semis, the Malaysians ousted top seeds and defending champions Nova Widiyanto and Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia in the third round and Denmark’s Jonas Rasmussen-Britta Andersen in the last eight.
National doubles coach Rexy Mainaky also blamed Kien Keat for his overzealousness.
“Our pair lost because they did not show any teamwork today. Kien Keat was trying very hard to be a one-man show when there were two Malaysians on court. I don’t know what he was thinking out there,” said Rexy.
“Sometimes, the players forget everything they learn during training and tend to do something else on court.”
But the pair’s encouraging show in Madrid is likely to pave the way for more focus to be placed on the development of mixed doubles players in Malaysia.
Kien Keat and Pei Tty admitted that they hardly trained together as a pair in preparation for international tournaments, including the World Championships. Unlike the other major powerhouses, Malaysia’s mixed doubles representatives are all scratch combinations made up of the men’s and women’s doubles players.

i mean their form were a bit strange to me. coz most of the time kkk were staying at the net and left wpt at the base line!

OK. Just watched the game. KKK is running around doing funny stuff and WPT is totally lost and doesn't have any idea what KKK is doing.

Koo/Wong's game is more suited against Asian opponents. Against European pairs, they can't adapt, because their training is focused more on standard doubles play. Even against Britta/Jonas, it took a pep talk from Rexy at the 1st game interval for Koo/Wong to change tactics and break away.

That's what BAM gets from pairing our best MD player with our best WD player, but not bother to teach them effective XD tactics or send them to many tourneys together. The fact that Koo/Wong is not far off the top XD pairs and were able to get to the WC semis is almost a miracle in itself.

To BAM, XD is more as an afterthought. If Koo/Chan are involved in a tournament and Wong/Chin are not or otherwise, BAM won't bother sending the other player to play only XD.

Totally agree with your assessment ! BAM should put more effort in improving the women's side althougth not to say that our men department is super strong, but the gap is too much. As for XD, they should really give more emphasis in trainning together and not just mix and match. They got it right with KKK/WPT but who knows this is the best pair in the world if you provide proper tactical trainning to them ?

Actually they play quite well, maybe they were nervous during the game..but WPT shouldnt blame KKK for the lost cos it's not fair...Now it is not the time for blaming each other, they should recall wat the mistakes they did during the match n do correction................
