No surprises today. Except for the missing Mia and Yao Jie. Singapore scared Korea a bit but it was always an uphill task.

Its the experimentel pair by Malaysia. They are the potential world class pair as KKK and TBH are still young

For those playing badminton fantasy manager, the highest scoring player today is Lee Yun Hwa who beat a higher-ranked player (Xing Aiying) is straight sets, so that's 15 + 2 + 1, the max you can get in this round actually.

I don't fear for Korea's doubles. They can handle anyone from Germany. The obvious problem is Julianne Schenk. They would be smart to play Lee Yun-hwa at second singles for that reason. Nobody from Korea has a chance of beating Xu but Lee could take Schenk, I believe. If Jun is really struggling, they can always use Lee Hyun-jin. She might be able to take Overzier. The other thing is that Lee vs. Overzier might be a better bet and Hwang might even have a chance against Schenk.

What I'm curious about is how both Korea and Singapore were able and just happened to play their best doubles teams as second doubles. Doesn't that go by ranking just like the singles?

Korea is in a tough group. There are no pushovers like China and Japan have in their groups.

Yea.. I'm curious for that as well. But I think that's because Jiang Yanmei also played the WS? Is Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia already the first WD for Singapore?

I'm not sure what you mean by "already". They are 16th in the world (I don't know how long they've been together but I think it's at least a year) and Lee/Lee are 3rd. Definitely the best their countries have got. Is that a rule about the order if you have a player doing double duty?

yea, the order is changed if a player is doing double duty. They will have time to rest.

Too bad the U.S. 1st MD pair lost, but it wasn't unexpected..:p
It is a scratch pair because Tony's current partner, Howard Bach, for some reason(who knows what) didn't make the trip(see earlier posts in this thread). After watching both Howard and Bob for a while, IMO, they are both of equal skills. But IMO, for some reason Howard is more consistent and stable partnering with Tony=>less self-mistake prone than Bob..Anyways, they did gave LWW/CTF a good run for their money..I wonder what will happen if it was KKK or whoever his partner is, playing against Tony/Bob M...

Concur with the 1st paragraph point, esp. regarding Howard being exposed to more international experience. Hmm, still wondering why he didn't join the trip to Japan??..

Abt Russia's abbreviation, i believe it's either RU or RUS..

Bob M. never retired or got injured. This was more like a scratch pairing(Howard was already on the team & was supposed to come, but didn't).. It was more of Tony partnering with Howard Bach which left Bob playing without Tony..Bob played mostly with Raju Rai as U.S.'s 2nd MD pair for the past 2 yrs. or so..
