BADMINTON bad boy Taufik Hidayat was threatened with police action after an undisclosed incident just hours ahead of Indonesia’s crunch Thomas Cup match against China, officials said yesterday.

Local media reported that the Asian champion punched a driver after a minor collision involving his sports car in the carpark of the Senayan Indoor Stadium.

The Jakarta Post said Taufik, who has a history of violent disputes, punched Jacky Darmawan, driver for Ahmad Kalla, whose brother is vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Kalla.

“Taufik reportedly became involved in a quarrel with Jacky, and the No 17 ranked player in the world then allegedly punched Jacky,” the Post said.

Badminton officials played down the incident and said Taufik had not been reported to police.

“The man who wanted to report him did not come to the police station so there is no report,” said Chairul Tanjung, president of the BA of Indonesia.

“It wasn’t a fight but a small problem. His car (Taufik’s) was bumped,” Indonesian team manager Christian Hadinata told the state Antara news agency.

    “Everything’s been resolved.”

Taufik was later named on the team sheet for the Group A showdown with arch-rivals China.

The 22-year-old star was involved in fights with spectators in 2001 and 2002, as well as a dispute over a traffic incident last year, the Post said.

Taufik..... Taufik...... you never change your attitude, hé !

As a world class player, he should have a good control of his temper.
The incident has showed who Taufik is.

Did the incident give rise to his lose ?
Because the incident just a couple hours before Indo vs China.

Many of you would probably hate me for saying this, but for once I think Taufik should get the black eye instead. Being a good and talented player is no excuse to exercise arrogance and aggresiveness.

    I do agree with you.
As a world class athlete, he has to show his sportmanship.
It means no arrogance and aggresive, but sportive. Taufik doesnot have the last one.

I have red it on the Indo's newspapaer.
The man who he punched is the driver of the vice-president candidate's brother for the coming president election. :D
