hint: check the date of the earlier posts. :)

Music Book Room is selling MP88 at $155 (the price is prominently displayed), 2005 date code, 4UG4. As I mentioned elsewhere, the latest shipment of MP88 in SG seems to be all 4U and doesn't feel as head heavy as 3U.

MP88 is a very newbie friendly racquet. I know cos' I'm a newbie. :D Large sweet spot and very forgiving. Yet previously used by pros like Peter Gade and Mia Audina. Much easier to play with than MP23 which is 2U only.

i wanted to buy a yonex nanospeed 8000 in Singapore but from what i enquire sportslink is selling it at SGD 299. Its a bit expensive ,i think. After reading all your discussion here, i found that the yonex nanospeed 8000 you'll claim is SGD270. thus, can anyone tell me what is the market rate for this racquet so that i will not end up paying more than its worth? also can tell me where to get it? in singapore or johor city only?

    MP88 Clone?

    hi guys,

i am thinking of buying a better racket for my wife, she is currently using a wilson 9.5 (the green colour one from Royal Sporting House).

Read the earlier article about MP88 being useful for newbie. wonder if anyone can recommend a cheaper clone of the MP88.

    thanks

a lot of people claim that TH racquets are less durable, although there's no concrete evidence of this. also, i guess with TH racquets, if there is a genuine manufacturer's defect, they won't replace it in SIN or MAS, you have to send it back to TH. IE, the shops here won't 'guarantee' them ...

hi dreamzz, thanks for ur info!
if the price of TH version is 30% lower than SP version, then it should b reasonable for us to try out, i guess !
our luck at that selecting moment is very important! guess again, haha:D

anyway the price i quote above is a year'05 post, OMG:eek:

I believe if we do a search in the forum we could find quite a lot of discussion on the distribution of specifically Yonex rackets in South East Asia.

Sunrise actually have a tight control on the retail price on those areas under their distribution control. This cover the whole of South East Asia except Thailand. That is why generally the "TH" code rackets are generally cheaper than the "SP" or "IP" rackets. The argument about the differences in quality has always been around but never conclusively proven one way or another.

On that count, honestly I donot think one can really find a big price differential on Yonex (SP/IP code) between Singapore and Malaysia. Of course, I am not including those major retail chain such as Royal Sporting House, SportLinks etc in Singapore who are selling Yonex way higher than the local sport shops who donot have to cover the high maintainence/image cost. If we are comparing the prcies at local shops then the differences would be minor.

When it comes to the other brands such as Fleet, APAC etc... where there is no single main distributor who control the distribution right and thus the price, then the profit margin are depending on individual retailer. In these instances, I believe one can find a better bargain in Malaysia, esp. in JB, compare to Singapore.

At least this is my observation and understanding.

I'm not so sure about that. I think the prices for Yonex racquets are around 20% cheaper in Singapore compared to Malaysia. I agree that Malaysia has cheaper Fleet, Proace and possibly Apacs racquets though.

    Noted.

I have never been to Racquet World at Pertama. But are we comparing apple to apple?

The price at Pertama is close to what we find at World of Sports, Royal Sporting House or Sportlinks in Singapore.
