If I am your opponent, I will walk to you and ask "what is your problem buddy, do you need help"? LoL.....
Lol... I'm even half tempted to make a ring tone based on it... That should cut thru all the usual Nokia/Samsung/iPhone ring tones...
It's amazing Marin's thread only has 43 posts. If she was Chinese and a World + AE champion it would probably have 430. Anyway, onto the point of my post. She very rarely uses a cross-court smash, which is usually a strong weapon for left handed players. On form right now i'm trying to think of players who are definitely better than Marin in the world. My list: Li Xuerui Shixian Ratchanok Of course there are others who may be better, but not by much I don't think. Her form really is that good right now. Hope she continues it.
Open field there at the top of ladies singles. No one player is excelling to give a definite statement.
CM definitely brought along more attention with regards to badminton in Spain. Spain just won their first ever European Junior Team championships, beating Denmark and England, two European superpowers.
in % how would you have Marin - WSX right now? Injury free I still believe Li Xuerui is ahead of the field. Despite not being fully fit she would definitely be a favourite to beat Marin right now
At the moment, Marin 60 - 40 WSX. If WSX regains her form as in the AE14, then 50-50 or 55-45 in WSX's favour because her game isn't threatening enough against a strong attacker who is also very fit. That's why I think WSX at her best stands a better chance against Intanon whose fitness is suspect.
She is definitely not everyone's favourite. I tend to skip the the game if she is playing.. can't stand her shouting in the court. Anyway... Didn't Nozomi Okuhara (JPN) beat her in the HK SS 2014?
Interesting. I would have Shixian a 65% favourite right now. There's a chance we may see them in the SF this week, Shixian has the harder draw though with Intanon + Bae Yeon Ju.
By favourite I meant to win the match, not from a fan perspective, although I do enjoy watching her play. Nozomi did beat her in HK but Marin avenged the defeat last week You can watch the match here http://new.livestream.com/bwfbadminton/ssnewdelhi2015court2
She is really good to watch, the way she plays. But her attitude is awfull. Not just the shouting, the ways she deals with her opponents in general is showing very poor breed. For example the way she did not shake hands with Inthanon after the IO semis (Inthanon had to cross the net to get to her, and Marin did not face her). She should take example on her compatriot Nadal and match her resilience with gentle behavior.
well Nadal doesn't run to hug uncle Toni first before shaking opponent's hands whenever he wins a match I hope BWF starts to educate the players to shake hands first before doing anything else. This culture has to go
The bookies have Shixian as a 66% favourite for tomorrow. Considering how tired she was after the game, and Marin had a straightforward 2-0 win I expect Marin to win tomorrow.
intanon was busy with herself and her coach. nothing's wrong with marin. she shook intanon's hand and faced her. watch here.
Another title for Marin, this time winning the Malaysia SSP beating Shixian and Xuerui en route! She used the cross-court smash at times today vs Xuerui, and I must say what an awesome shot it is, an outright winner every time if I remember correctly. It does make me wonder why she doesn't use it more often?! Not enough credit can be given to Marin and her coach Fernando Rivas. Spain has very little badminton history, Marin's had no world class partners to spa against, yet her improvement over the last few years is substantial. Just 2 years ago she was often on the International and GP circuit, her only real opponent was Zhang Beiwen, now she's a contender at the biggest events. I'm a big fan of how she uses the BH low serve, copying from MS. Over time I expect it to become the standard serve in WS too. Her speed, fitness and athletic ability is immense, not many WS players jump from a base position to hit round-the-head cross court shots. I've made a list with videos of some of Marins best wins to date: Aus SS 2014 vs Sung Ji Hyun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIgHITJzar0 World Championships 2014 vs Wang Yihan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6duKTQWPctk World Championships QF 2014 vs Tai Tzu Ying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YN-b-2qWW0 World Championships SF 2014 vs PV Sindhu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YEx6lW7B7o World Championships Final 2014 vs Li Xuerui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N215nmkEO6Y All England QF 2015 vs Sung Ji Hyun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt02AnlfaYw All England SF 2015 vs Tai Tzu Ying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKJ7PXOcLTw All England Final 2015 vs Saina Nehwal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWjCOVnOk7M Malaysia SSP SF 2015 vs Wang Shixian https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa5C988w_wE Malaysia SSP Final 2015 vs Li Xuerui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKvOh0haIFc
She is truly an exceptional player. Regarding her behaviour I feel people are too sensitive and complaining too much about what they prefer as unsportsmanlike. In reality it's probably nothing her opponents even notice. They focus on their own. Her grunt is annoying at most, but complaining about her alleged arrogance, the way she returns the shuttle or the way she shakes hands after a match, that is being too picky. Badminton female players were never known to have proper handshakes anyway, they barely touch hands.
