No need to tell LCW. LCW already knows that every player he meets is a danger to his medal hope. This is for media consumption.

LCW's preparation for this Olympics is very special. Being through a lot of pains before (e.g. the loss to Sony in the World Championship and being blamed), he has learned the meaning of humility and overconfidence.

He is not taking things for granted anymore. He knows specifically that it is on him to bring 'it' home - everybody is relying on him. As such, he has trained himself to the fullest this time round. If he was known as a 'greenhorn' before, he no longer shows that in his armoury - of course time will tell but anyone with a sense of badminton, would have noticed the change.

It is like the 'brain' has suddenly woken up (and I called that maturity through experience). That old sayng 'Once bitten twice shy' will also hold true.

It is a blessing in disguise that he came through this hard route - if he had won the World Championship, I wonder whether it would have spurred this concious effort from LCW. Would he be as dedicated ?

RS ready for battle and all eventualities!

RS was interviewed on TV last night.

The badminton team has returned from South Korea and is continuing their training at their headquarters, the Singapore Sports School.

He was smiling and seemed in pretty good shape although he is still nursing a shoulder injury. He was relaxed and answered the questions good naturedly.

He emphasized that he loves to be the underdog and the pressure is on LCW to prove he is good for gold. Poor LCW has been reminded time and again by both his countrymen and others that the gold medal is waiting for him and not even LD, not even on the latter's home ground.

But by a twist of fate, LD the world no.l who lost to RS in Athens, does not have to face RS again in Beijing. What a heavy emotional and mental burden being lifted from LD to enable him to do his best in about a week from today!

Instead, now it is LCW's turn as world no.2 to be tested. A vast majority feels RS has no chance at all and LCW will probably steamroll past RS just like RS did to LD 4 years ago. But at least 20% in this poll gave RS a chance to prove otherwise.

In fact if statistics were any guide, RS did beat LCW twice and lost twice in their previous outings. A good reminder from RS to those soothsayers and detractors that he would lose badly to LCW in Beijing. Four years ago soothsayers also said more or less the same thing and LD was not world no.2 then but no.1, a consistent and deserving world no.1! RS's record against him then must be worse than equal, worse than the 2-2 he had against LCW!

Being the underdog, Ronald 'Susi-loh' :p has nothing to lose but all to win if he beats LCW. The unfriendly has taunt him regarding his breakup with his long-time girl friend, but RS should take this as an opportunity, as a motivation to succeed and show his ex-girl that he is more than the negative stuff that others had made him out to be.

Oh yes, he is a 'foreign talent', much despised and made fun of by not a few in our forum despite the fact that he came to Singapore as a school boy but his badminton talent has not gone unnoticed which led to him becoming a full time professional with the SBA. He went on to become a Singapore citizen and will be donning Singapore colours again for his second Olympics at age 27.

RS has already helped tiny Singapore gain a place in the Badminton World Map and we hope he can also put Singapore in the Olympic Map for the second time in Singapore's Olympic history.

So please don't count RS out so soon!

    Xing Aiying

In the same TV interview, another foreign talent who became a citizen, 18-year old Xing Aiying who spoke in English, said her Beijing friends who once trained with her were happy that she was given a chance to experience the Olympics. What Aiying meant to say in an indirect way was that if she had remained in China, just like her friends she would not be sent to the Olympics, at least not for this year. You have to agree with her. ;)

Our foreign talents have done us proud and they will continue to make us proud with their achievements and by showing the way for our own local talents to reach their standards and emulate their success. :)

Trying to be personal huh! :D:D:D

But if you meant "incomparable" as being beyond compare (against yours and George's support for LCW), then I take it as a compliment.

Just add a little of Oldhand's journalistic touch, hmmmm, some flowery words, photos, it becomes a feature write-up, no sweat for our uncle Loh. ;) For English ver that is.

Xball can do one for LCW, George can do the Chinese ver, me....hmm, the boring 5W & 1H report.

I think susilo believes in adidas, where else LCW believes in Nike. So it can be anyones game. The person who wakes up better on the day will win. Same goes to the title. Imagine the pressure..... when it comes to final... its a last hurrah for the top 2 players in the world.
