Dates of competition: 30 July to 6 August 2018 City: Nanjing, China Schedule and Major milestones: I have created a poll for women's singles as I think this discipline is most intensely contested at the moment. I personally would like to see PVS vs NO or PVS vs AY in the final, but I have to admit TTY is the strongest and will very likely make it to the final.
AhmadNatsir, AhsanRian reject invitation to WorldChamp. lol. Maybe because if you win it, there is no prize money anyway. I really hope in futures the WorldChampionship only have 16 contestants of 4 groups. It will make it more exciting or they can actually straight away introduce knockout phase. Really there is no point including people outside the top 50.
It will not be the World Championship if it only allowed 16 contestants from over 200 players in the world. Maybe all the top 16 seeded could have more byes. Or I don't know, appreciate the idea but not so sure if it fit the concept of a World Championship.
Phase 2 first version of Qualifiers List has been published. PDF ---> MS | WS | MD | WD | XD (<--- click to download) As far as XD is concerned, there are 4 of 8 top pairs which have been declined the invitation: Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen [CHN], Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir [INA], Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto [INA], and also Seo Seung Jae/Kim Hana [KOR]. The others pairs which also decline the invitation are Choi Solgyu/Chae Yujung [KOR], Chang Peng Soon/Cheah Yee See, Hee Yong Kai Terry/Tan Wei Han [SGP], Sawan Serasinghe/Setyana Mapasa [AUS], and few other pairs too. Meanwhile, in Men's Single category, all 25 top players had answered YES except Lee Hyun Il (WR: 22) as the only one who rejected the invitation. And Kento Momota listed as the third Japan men's single who qualified for this BWF World Championships. In women's single, Tai Tzu Ying listed in after last year she missed the World Championships due to Summer Universiade. And Zhang Beiwen couldn't participate this World Championships.... again.
Certainly have lost its luster. Why have 4 straight SS tournaments and then 1/2 weeks later have WC? If its thats important anyway. of course if its me , if i can i d rather play at the 4 tournaments. rather than only spending a single flight to nanjing. and we havent even seen players injured after these 4 tournaments.
I think a MS poll with LCW, VA, LD, CL, SYQ, KS, KM and SWH will be interesting too. Don’t know who I would vote for! You won’t get a runaway poll winner like TTY for sure
I created a poll for Men's Singles! please vote there! http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...nships-2018-mens-singles.176583/#post-2641328
Would love to see Tai vs Ratchanok or Tai vs Chen. These two have posed trouble to Tai. Ratchanok's more aggressive and deceptive style works pretty well against Tai, whereas a very stable Chen can force Tai to commit errors when she starts her fanciful shots. Both have improved much, so it's exciting to watch them play.
Zhang Beiwen qualifies for the first time in BWF WC representing USA according to BWF News : http://bwfworldchampionships.com/ne...iwen-zhang-qualifies-for-world-championships/
It's also a long time since we've seen NO-TTY ... 2016. http://bwf.tournamentsoftware.com/h...33E64CC&T1P1MemberID=96713&T2P1MemberID=61427
Lin Dan would be on Court 4 @yuquall. Thailand organisers are not interested in him. Soorry to tell you that, mate.
Interesting to see AY getting 11 votes so far, people choosing to vote her instead of Nozomi. I don't see her winning the title. Sindhu is always a Silver girl. TTY may be the title holder.
LOL then. What's done by BWF in this particular... errhm... blunder/misread/mistake? The phase 1 mention Zhang Beiwen with black color and red block at allocation place means didn't qualified. Suddenly, BWF revise it with Zhang Beiwen has qualified in Phase 2. But still, the continental status of Pan Am was written after Michelle Li's name and not after Zhang Beiwen's name which higher ranking. This changes also makes Jamie Subandhi (WR: 71) qualified as USA WS1 declined by unknown force. I believe that Jamie should be happy at the first time her name was mentioned as USA1 at the Phase 1 list, before finally Zhang Beiwen came to talk with her, "Sorry, it's my place, you need to go further outside!". What's a sad story for Jamie anyway.
Zhang (featured image) is eligible as, under new General Competition Regulations, a player does not need to hold a passport of the member association represented if he/she is a ‘registered player for entry’ for that member association for a minimum of three years immediately before a BWF Major Event.
Yeah I know that, but is that General Competition Regulations changing in between Phase 1 and Phase 2 list published? That's my concern. Unless they change the GCR after phase 1 released.
@Cheung I digged the two versions GCR available : [1] 705 kB, date 24/11/2017 & [2] 523 kB, date 14/2/2018. Both of GCR PDFs mentioned the same thing about the eligibility of player AND the dates are before the Phase 1 List published. AND now it's more confusing after I read again with carefully the whole naration there: So, maybe the Phase 1 List is correct and Phase 2 List is free translation done by BWF without giving enough attention into point 6.3.1 which is the main thing there. 6.3.1 is about holds a passport is a must 6.3.1.1 is about has not represented any other Member for 3 years before the event. 6.3.1.1.d is about has been registered under the Member for minimum 3 years before the event. The point 6.3.1.1.d. Didn't mention that "It doesn't need to hold a passport followed by IF condition". I would suggest @phihag to give his understanding of this eligibility based on BWF Statues section 6. International Representation.
@Cheung It's not common thing if BWF gets new regulations and then applied directly without any prior notice. But, if we used that available documents above, do you think that the passport requirement could be excluded with some clear explanation? In my opinion, the players still need to have a passport no matter the condition based on that regulation (I assumed no newer regulation than that).
