JCC Plenary Hall has smaller space than Istora and to accomodate this matter the tournament will run in seven days rather than six days normal schedule. All badminton prominent names take part in this most lucrative Superseries which offers US$1,000,000 total prize-money, same number with Dubai Finals. The qualification round was concluded yesterday, none of local MS player could secure main draw spot that indicates INA must work harder to raise their standard in this most competitive discipline. Zhao Junpeng, Emil Holst, Kazumasa Sakai and Chong Wei Feng grabbed their ticket meanwhile women singles category saw Canadian Michelle Li, Danish player Natalia Koch Rohde, Korean rising talent Lee Jang Mi and home young star Gregoria Mariska through to main draw. Men's singles magnificent trio, defending champion Lee Chong Wei, reigning Olympic and World Champion Chen Long and living legend Lin Dan will be red-hot favourite to nail MS title. World number one Lee will eye new record to seek 7th INA Open crown, he’s slated to meet one of toughest rival, Chen in last eight. Also join top-half of draw are Rio bronze medalist Viktor Axelsen and China future leading man Shi Yuqi. Meanwhile Chinese superstar Lin will start his campaign to meet TPE rising star Wang Tzu Wei and is pitted to face last year beaten finalist Jan O Jorgensen in quarterfinal. Current world number one Son Wan Ho has complicated task in first round, the in-form Sai Praneeth who won two titles recently, SIN Open and Thailand GP Gold. Badminton enthusiasts will wait and see whether the formidable Tai Tzu Ying could extend her winning streak since HKG Open. Tai has transformed to be invincible at the moment, won 6 individual titles in a row including the prestigious All England last spring. This Taiwanese young lady is expected to set up a quarterfinal clash with either former world champion Racthanok Intanon or 2015 World Championships silver medalist Saina Nehwal – both of them will face off at very first round. Two Japanese starlets, Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara once again are drawn at same quarter, one of them may face 7th seed He Bingjiao in last eight. At bottom-half of draw, the Olympic Champion Carolina Marin who has many fans in Indonesia will be tested by China upcoming player Chen Xiaoxin in opening round then possibly will find Sung Ji Hyun in quarter and either Sindhu or Sun Yu at last four. Indonesia best hopeful to bring back the glory at homesoil will rely on their new aces, Gideon/Sukamuljo. They're drawn with arch-rival Kamura/Sonoda and two Chinese combinations, Li JH/Liu YC and Chai B/Hong W. A relatively lighter bottom half draw will see former champion Boe/Mogensen, Conrad/Kolding and local pair Pratama/Suwardi as the frontrunners, Rio silver medalists Goh/Tan pulled out due to injury. The Olympic Champion Matsutomo/Takahashi find tough path to defend their title here, tricky opening test will wait them tomorrow, Chinese reunion duo Huang YQ/Yu XH, followed by fellow countrywomen Fukushima/Hirota at last sixteen. Join them at top-half, All England champion Chang YN/Lee SH and Luo twin sisters. Interesting opening clash will witness Denmark supremes Pedersen/Juhl meet Korean promising pair Kim HR/Yoo HW, the latter scored sensational run in Wuhan last April. A tight rivalry in mixed doubles category is described since very early round, world number one Zheng SW/Chen QC will take on Korean Sudirman Cup heroes Choi SG/Chae YJ. The Chinese sensations are slated to face former All England winner Jordan/Susanto in last eight and one of European elite pair at semifinal. The in-form Lu K/Huang YQ who suffered huge blow in Gold Coast despite their superb performance in this new season have possible quarterfinal clash against Thailand rapid rise Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai. The Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir who comeback from injury shoud no problem to pass preliminary round and have prospect to find Chinese challenger Zhang/Li at last eight. 21-8 / 21-12, a comprehensive victory by defending champion Tai Tzu Ying who outclasses Minatsu Mitani.
Big shock for the home fans in the line, first upset of the tourney about to commence. As the home mega stars Debby/Jordan trails 17-7 in the decider
A first round exit for Jordan/Susanto who sparked glimmer of hope at Sudirman Cup group-stage match three weeks ago but again flop performance in front of homeground fans.
The poor run of Jordan / Susanto continues. The All England champions were defeated by Christiansen/ Thygersen in the rubber set 11-21.
Does anyone have the inside story on why Debby Susanto & Praveen Jordan (especially) have been performing so inconsistently since their All England win? Denmark's 2nd ranked XD has just convincingly reversed their Sudirman Cup loss and knocked INA's 2nd ranked XD out in the round of 32... I would applaud Denmark's correct application of strategy (playing flat pushes below the net) and especially the male player's excellent shot selection (deceptive drop shots and pushes)-- except that Praveen Jordan (& to some extent Debby Susanto) is just playing/ moving so stiltedly? Is there some recurring injury like with the MAS XD player Goh Liu YIng? I mean, why are the much taller Danes so much better at playing from a crouched position!?! Sigh... so when Natsir retires, INA will have no reliable MS, WS... AND XD anymore?
Idk what the he'll I just watched, Sumeeth is just an immovable mess, he can't even serve man. Wonder why they keep giving him chance, worse then Akshay Devalkar. AP's body language was clearly speaking "I don't wanna play with him" in CAPS. Shame
ZSW/CQC steals g1 24-22 costly fault by the Koreans at 22-22 Sumeeth is a crap, it's good that AP is registered with Satwik in next tourney
Gregoria Mariska booted out higher ranked Chen Yufei 17-21, 21-19, 21-19, this time in favour of the crowd.
Gregoria Mariska edges out reigning world junior champion Chen Yufei in close contest, 17-21 / 21-19 / 21-19, well done!
Home hopeful gregoria Marissa stuns W#9 CYF. After missing a kill at 17-80 and a sitter on 18-20 I thought she's finished. She was limping but the lift from the CHN starlet goes long. And the youngster is through to R2
