That gentleman with a cap hails from Hong Kong and is a friend of Charles and Tony, who also came from HK originally. A badminton fan who plays little or no badminton like my two WOW Team cats featured in this thread. He is familiar with Singapore and goes there quite often to visit relatives.
My friend who paid for the meal was Effendi Wijaya, owner of PB. Musica Champions, the # 6 ranked badminton club in the INA Superliga [badminton league]. He also owns (probably) Indonesia's biggest music studio. He brought a lot of INA artists to watch the Thomas and Uber Cup because he thought (correctly) that this iniative of his should add glamor to INA badminton. And... sure enough, the TV cameras saw the famous pop artists and showed them time-and-time again on TV. INA badminton needs this kind of added prestige... So, in the next INA Superliga, we should cheer for PB. Musica Champion too...
This trip to Jakarta was a memorable one....Big thank you to Hauge, Abedeng and Krisna especially Hauge for being such a good host... Had a great time enjoying the games with all the BC members who went...had fun shouting, cheering or even 'booing' at the players...
Hmm.... U missed out one thing... we had the Msia TC/UC team lining up next to us at the airport and certainly u did steal some glances at "your kkk" and some small chats... LCW was looking at you (when u were "in" their queue) and wondered who the hell is this lady must be KKK's fanatic fan FYI, Msia TC/UC took the 635pm flight from JKT back to KL but they were not flying with MAS
Yes...so excited to see the Msia team at the airport...and KKK was quite shock to see me there...He thought Im travelling back to KL as well... But too bad...Im coming back to Spore...else we might be travelling in the same flight
Furama supper On my first night, Hauge brought us to Furama for supper. Unlike Restaurant Lagunas, which we just walk to get to the place as it is situated close to Istora Senayan, we went in a few taxis to arrive at Furama. Same goes with Mangga Besar. Below are two pics, one of Furama and the other, Lagunas:
Long-awaited BC matches It was during the afternoon of the TC finals on Sunday. Since Indonesia was not involved and Korea had to face China, we thought the attendance would not be as overwhelming as the previous day when Indonesia met China for the UC finals. We later found out how wrong we were when we reached the stadium as the good seats were all taken up when we finished our own matches at the Djarum courts a little late. We assembled at Sultan Hotel at about 2.30 pm and by 3.20 pm or so, we organized ourselves in 4 taxis to reach Djarum Tubun in about 10 min to find that some young Djarum players were still training hard in the 3 wooden-floor courts. However our turn to take over came shortly and Krisna took the initiative to 'select' and match some of our players for a few games with his friends, and to play amongst ourselves. Tony and I enjoyed a game with Krisna and his friend. So did Rudy when he partnered Lauren. It was a fun game all right as the pictures will show.
fabcargo, nice pics and story. This is one of the things that separates badminton players from many pros from other sports. They just seem so much more normal, like you and I, and we can relate to that. They are incredibly approachable and are willing to mix with each other, even though there is a language barrier.
WOW! It sounded absolutely perfect. What an incredible experience. Only makes being there even more painful. Nice summary uncle Loh. I wanna hear more from the other BC members
Here is Gao Ling, putting on a smile as always, whilst XXF was sitting on the floor nursing her overworked right elbow with ice:
Talking about Lauren Todt, she is a very special lady with a diverse cultural background. Her Chinese mother came from Hong Kong, as a result of which Lauren is able to speak Cantonese, albeit with a foreign accent. But she emphasizes that she is 50% Chinese! Want to know more about her, just ask her!
I remember her being in Vancouver at the 2005 World Juniors. It sounds like she was hanging out with the BC gang more than with the US team!
cai looks very good, as usual. better than fu *laughs* of course your wife, alvent and yourself look nice too.
first time seeing a pic of krisna! louisa, i didn't know you went to jkt? anyway great pics everyone..
