Kwun,
this is a good post.
String tension is a key factor for the beginners.
Do not put high tension expecting better results. Higher tension only means lesser power, and more precision.
When you are a beginner, the power is lacking and so is the timing, thus a loose string helps in hitting the shuttle farther and crisp (not more than 20 lbs).
As you get more advanced, you want your drops to be more precise, and your smashes to be more precise (on the line), then the higher string tension helps.
great info, thank you guys VERY much!
one more thing though, I find that because I only play once a week, my shoes lose their grip after a few months but the shoes are otherwise in tact. Is there anyway I can maintain shoes as opposed to buying new ones when the old shoes basically become rollerskates?
Hm, ok. I assume that just cleans off the dirt and dust? Because on my really old ones I tried scrubbing them out with mild soap and water with an old toothbrush but that didn't really work
Oh no when I say old shoes I mean ones that I've used for a few months and basically lost their gripfor really old ones (eg, for more 2 years), the rubber sole had hardened. There is not much you can do to save them.
