It's been reported that during the pre-tournament press conference, Lin Dan was asked by a reporter some annoying questions which displeased him so much that he cut it short and left early.

I got the news from here http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2018-06-13/doc-ihcwpcmq2626479.shtml

At one point, after the said reporter posed the unpleasant question to him, he was seen facing the reporter and waving his left hand a few times at him, brushing it off with :' There's nothing ...about it." And then the reporter followed up by :" I understand..." but Lin Dan added without waiting for him to speak further," You ask me, I reply you/ I won't answer you" (as the video clip was too soft, the author couldn't make out what he uttered. From Lin Dan's tone and facial expression, we can tell he was visibly displeased with the question.

Thereupon, the host, who appeared taken aback by the incident, intervened, ' If there's no further questions...", but before he could even finish, Lin Dan got up from his seat, waved at the reporters to indicate that he's leaving, while after a moment's pause, the host carried on where he left off. Even Busanan, who was seated beside Li Xuerui and Lin Dan, looked at her and smiled.

[I guess this awkward incident could play a part in Lin Dan's subsequent behaviour at the tournament. Just saying. - Justin L]

The question must have been about his scandal and LD had every right to leave.

If true, then understandably and justifiably. It's been a long while since and the couple has put that unhappy past behind them and moved on, the insensible reporter should've known better than to rake over it , thus unwittingly ( or intentionally?) spoiling the party for everyone, most of all the tournament organizer who's probably over the moon that Lin Dan has come all the way to play such a small event and hoping to make it a resounding success like what the AUS Open did last month.

Definitely not the oldest. Schoppe and Fogarty are both 61. Yuko Kawasaki is 48.

Why should we need to talk about Lindan here when he showed disrespect to his opponent by intentionally retiring from the match when he was really healthy to finish it. Lol. Simply not worthy to talk about that person anymore here in this thread.

Whoever he may be. Who cares if he is such a rude person. I usually won't talk like that. But i watched the match and i could not believe it .

Some way to go to reach the ranking of those two. The question is, what association to register under... Hmmm... :)

THE GREATEST GOAT OF THEM ALL …???

Wong Peng Soon was considered by many to be the greatest during his time. So did Erland Kops, Rudy Hartono, Morten Frost,
Taufik Hidayat, and now Lin Dan.

But they don't have a chance to meet to determine who is greater.

Even then, what about those come after ….?

US Open has arrived to quarterfinal stage but Lin Dan's first round retirement becomes hot topic here :D
We only keep guessing and speculating what happened exactly to him couple of days ago...

Only three of MS seven seeds - Sameer Verma pulled out from this tournament - safely through to last eight. Fourth seed Khosit Phetpradab will take on recent AUS Open Super 300 winner Lu Guangzu, the Chinese played marathon match to overcome vast experienced shuttler Suppanyu Avihingsanon in last sixteen. One more Thai representative, the promising star Kantaphon Wangcharoen finds Korean hurdle Lee Dong Keun. On the opposite draw, Orleans Masters Super 100 winner Mark Caljouw has the unheralded Canadian Sheng Xiaodong while 2013 WJC Heo Kwang Hee who downed Brice Leverdez will see Ajay Jayaram.

Women's singles last eight scenario is predictable, home favourite Zhang Beiwen will be tested by Thailand fresh talent Pornpawee Chochuwong. Another Thailand Uber Cup-bound player Busanan Ongbamrungphan gets familiar opponent Aya Ohori, a close contest is projected. 2012 Olympic Champion Li Xuerui and her look-alike Gao Fangjie secure quarterfinal spot, Li powered past second seed Sayaka Sato, 22-20 / 21-9 and facing Korean number three Kim Hyo Min while Gao FJ has complicated task to meet the on-fire MIchelle Li who produced impressive performance in just concluded Uber Cup.

The frontrunners of doubles discipline still continue their journey, 2016 Olympic bronze medalists Ellis/Langridge start to meet tricky test, last year WJC bronze medalists Kang MH/Kim WH. Women's doubles top-seed Fukuman/Yonao will find China new promising duo Cao TW/Zheng Y who managed runner-up in NZL Super 300 recently. In mixed doubles, Chan PS/Goh LY, Ellis/Smith are expected to prevail while German pair Lamsfuss/Herttrich will face Chinese new experimenting combination Lu K/Chen L.

Li Xuerui beating Sayaka Sato by two straight sets is somewhat of a surprise to me, not least by the score of 21-9 in the second set.

Somehow it confirms my belief that LXR crumbled under the weight of pressure, crippled by nerves in the tiebreaking semifinal match with Busanan, simply put, her old mental weakness issue.

I think the idea of reporter has the right to ask anything is absurd. If you don't respect people, don't expect to be respected either. This is a sport event, do focus on sport and not other matters that will cause problems. That reporter should be bar from future interviews.

Zhang Beiwen winning the decider 21-19 on a lucky net cord. I feel sad for Chochuwong who did a good deal of catching up saving 3 match points but was unable to do anything in the end.

Valiant effort from Fukuman/Yonao to down Cao/Zheng and assert themselves as top seeds. Also without coaches during that match.

There was an announcement in the arena.
"Your Attention please. This is about giving free t.shirts. The people who make more noise will get free t.shirts".
    Lol.
From that moment, my ear is gone.
