The first Thomas Cup semifinal pitted three-time winner Indonesia against darkhorse Korea two days ago. It’s anticlimax for Korean squad after they created stellar performance to upset host China 3-1 then they faltered on the next day with same scoreline 1-3. Son Wan Ho produced superb play to subdue Indonesian future star Jonatan Christie. Then Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan proved they’re still reliable to contribute point in crucial tie, they overpowered world number one Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong who seemed not fully recovered yet after fought hard to defeat Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan on Thursday night, this winning became the turning point for INA men’s team to cruise into last round. Anthony Ginting made it 2-1 after overcame the stubborn Lee Dong Keun. Finally, the more confidence Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanda Suwardi sealed the tie, eliminated Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang, 21-15 / 21-18.

The second semifinal on Friday evening found the epic battle as Denmark came from behind to deny five-time winner Malaysia to repeat 2014 achievement. It looked team MAS would win 3-0 directly after the top echelon player Lee Chong Wei overcame recent European champion Viktor Axelsen in close contest and Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong defeated new partnership Mathias Boe/Mads Conrad Petersen. Then Hans Kristian Vittinghus turned the tables to shatter Malaysian dream, followed by Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen to eliminate Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong respectively. Reserve player Emil Holst was the decider to seal final spot for Denmark, defeated the shaky Chong Wei Feng, 21-15 / 21-18.

Second seed Denmark will challenge thirteen-time winner Indonesia (1958-1964, 1970-1979, 1984, 1994-2002) to carve new history in Thomas Cup event. Meanwhile team INA has high target here to bring back the trophy after last time they won it 14 years ago in Guangzhou 2002. Being eight times runner-up, it's one step closer for European badminton powerhouse Denmark to grab the elusive Thomas Cup title. The last final appearance for both teams was 2010 for Indonesia and 2006 to Denmark, lost to China with same scoreline, 0-3. Today's final clash is rematch of 1996 edition when INA won over DEN, 3-1 in Hong Kong.

It will be too tough to predict who will win the cup, Denmark has two elite men's singles players, Axelsen and Jorgensen while Indonesia has formidable men's doubles pairs. The final contest may go to last match to determine the outcome, Danish team is favoured to lead 1-0 earlier through Viktor Axelsen who looks in supreme form along this tournament including to push world number two Lee Chong Wei into the limit at semifinal.

It's amazing how the 4 MS of Indonesian can be substituted. Hope Rexy made the right decision tho.
And please please Ahsan & Hendra win this game dammit.

Has Jan O Jorgensen recovered from his injury? Or DEN forces him to play even though he's not in 100% condition? Same to Mads Pieler Kolding.

Wow, Indonesia didn't front Jonatan Christie? They may regret that.

CLELY, excellent write up!! Thank you so much.

But perhaps, the thread should be started first the night before.

By using the "Edit" function, you can add your summary, highlights and write-ups later in the morning. Just an idea..

Anyway, thank you very much for opening the thread.

DEN aqain fields its full team unlike in the SF, not a good news for INA team. This is a match between desire to have a reunion after 14 years versus breaking the ice for the very first time, to expand the very exclusive winner club to five.

I hope INA team will make it... but on paper DEN has slightly better chance.

Is Thomas Cup the last "major" that Setiawan is yet to win?

h, server is back up. Victor is leading slightly. Edge to Denmark for MS1 but edge to Indonesia for MD1 and MD2, Score is still close.

No wonder, I was trying desperately to access.

Tommy is trailing 17-20 in G1 and then hit out to give it to Viktor.
But Tommy seems to be doing all right!

Victor's tall frame caused Tommy to misjudge and hit out.
    Now 2-all.

Victor's attacking mode is in full flow.
Hope Tommy will reduce his chances by playing more nets. 4-2 for Tommy.

Now Tommy is producing more attacks that paid dividends. And with a little bit of luck at the tape. 6-5 Tommy.

It's obvious Tommy is trying to keep the shuttle down as much as possible, wary of Viktor's steep powerful smashes.

But V has been consistent with his smash. Only errors caused him the points.
Big smash from V again. 7-all.
