From Frank Yang @ XiYu:

    Our Mission:

XiYu is a loose group of Chinese players in the Bay Area. Many of you have seen them at GGBC especially as of late. The goal of the XiYu open is to provide a platform for our BCD (and the strictly recreational) players to compete in a tournament environment where the emphasis is (ordered by decreasing importance) participation, friendship, competition, and fun. We are proud of the teenage players we cannot beat. But for once, we'd like to compete without them so we get to win too. That said, all are welcome to participate.

    The Format:

The XiYu Open will deploy the drop flight format that is not commonly used in the Bay Area. All players will no longer need to enter themselves into the ABCD categories. Everyone starts in the Open flight. If you win your first match, you are then placed into the A/B flight or C/D flight if you loose. Your next match will give you your final placement into the ABCD flights, depending on the result. This largely eliminates sand baggers, and also guarantees a minimum of 3 matches.

    The "Recreation Flight":

If you have never played in a tournament before, and you have mostly played non-competitively with friends, no problem. The Recreation Flight is just for you. This flight will be a doubles only flight. And we will be gender neutral, all Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles pairs will compete together. The matches will be round-robin, so, you will get to play against as many other pairs as possible. This is a great way to play your first tournament.
