I'd be shocked if CHN took WS, especially with the way the rest of the draw is laid out. Who's your money on?

Looks like NTY could be a new breakout star from Malaysia.

Gillian mentions Ng Tze Yong's coach name as Hendrawan. Was he Hendra Setiawan's brother-in-law?

Hendrawan is MS world champion (2001) from Indonesia. He is a coach now.

totally agree he is still very weak emotionally, then umpire was really favoring VA: when NTY did not want to change the shuttle (having slower would mean better control of the drift) despite the fact NTY won the point umpire went with VA and ordered to change the shuttle, usually decent umpire would never allow let to decide to point looser.... and yes after that shuttle change it was long of the back line...

Kunlavut definitely not 100%. He had a lot of strappings on his left ankle since yesterday. Too bad he had to be injured right before an important tournament like this. That said, Shi Yuqi played a great match. He probably already recovered from jet lag. (He said in an interview that his poor performance in German Open was partly due to jet lag haha)

Personally I think anders has a good shot. Would love to see lzj vs nzy in MS

Who happened to marry Hendra Setiawan's sister! So he is technically Hendra Setiawan's brother-in-law.

I am surprised Viktor let this get to him. He’s built an aura of confidence around him as world no.1 by being calm and confident.

In the future, opponents will be looking to get him flustered on court.

Men’s single’s suddenly got interesting again.

Viktor is somewhat in the same stage as what Lin Dan was back in 2008-2012 - ie. winning all the big ones and losing every now and then.

I'd say this loss isn't a big deal, he will bounce back for sure after reflecting on it. I still think he's the favourite for next year in Paris - matching what Lin Dan did (retaining an Olympic title).

Ng Tze Yong on the other hand, may crumble in the next round after such a big win.

I could contrast it to when Park Sung Hwan beat Lin Dan at the 2010 World Championships, he then lost to Hidayat of all players - and Hidayat was already in a long decline in 2010 - he was well past his peak and it was sad to see.
