This begs the question...out of some of the currently active pro players who have/had some presence on Youtube such as the aforementioned Badminton Insight, Jordan Hart, Talia Ng, Gronya Somerville etc., what could be the reasons for them to not being able to break through their current ceilings in the sport? Could it be too much time curating said social media content, or they are simply being surpassed by other athletes who are on a completely different skill/mindset?
well.....should call ohori queen of errors i guess everything so crappy....only thing left is eye candy mascot for team japan...oh wait there is shida nowadays eh
I think it more likely that these players know they won't break the absolute top of badminton and are diversifying their income. The lower levels of professional play don't earn that much, and these are some ways to subsidise that income. It is also not true that with enough determination and training, anyone can reach the top. There are players that don't live up to their potential, but there are also many players that pushed their level as high as it could go. Few players, if any at all, dream of being a badminton content creator when they are training at age 13, 15, or 17. They want to be champions. They want to improve and they want to win. I think only when it has become clear to themselves that they just don't have what it takes to get to the top, would they shift their focus. I think it is a pragmatic and respectable choice.
That's a good point. The smart/savvy/successful players who can leverage income streams outside of just playing badminton will do well to maintain their longevity in the sport. Endorsements are one thing, but things like working with actual sponsors, organizations, pod/videocasting (why it's called a podcast anymore doesn't make sense) etc. all contribute to name recognition and consistent exposure. Otherwise, we wouldn't be talking about players like Greg and Jenny as much had it not been for their social media content.
Genius Qualities. China has a plentifully source in training, but what ever they try, they cannot ''create'' another Lin Dan.
Sorry, I didn't watch the match from the beginning so I don't know. Usually the commentators introduce themselves near the beginning. But I do agree he was quite good.
So i dint get to watch momota’s match today due to other commitments, based on the score, looks pretty tight especially game 1. Did he do well? Or was it pretty much kunlavut’s game to lose
I thought it was pretty close and i liked the way Momota played aggressively. Someone has uploaded it on youtube, all points in some 5-6 mins clip. Sent from my NE2211 using Tapatalk
Okuhara and Sindhu 2 of 3 2016 Olympic Angels have already acquired a lot of laurels like World Tittles,WTF Tittle and Oly Medals its heart breaking to see them oust in first rounds...Dunno if Carol would win anything or not now but I have some hopes from her however, given young batch is already here, cant say much...same condition with Ratchanok as well and pretty much same with Tai as well. Im glad all these Golden Era WS girls got oly medals and world tittles...I know I will have to say this some day but I know its gradually coming time for them to hang their racket and Im happy with their achievements. Just wish to see May with an Olympic medal too cause she is the only one from post 2012 batch that doesnt have that elusive metal but I know deep within that her last chance is in '24 and even then it seems so hard with AY,CYF,ASY,PC,ZYM,WZY,HBJ etc coming up with full force. Thank you Golden Girls for all the amazing memories from 2013 till 2022
The only thing Chris can improve on commentary is make him talk chunk by chunk. By the time he stop talking, 2-3 rallies could have gone easily. This also fix his mumblings after talking for too long at a time.
