Seems Sayaka is in hospital. Did she have ACL reconstruction surgery?

I'm not speculating or insinuating anything but those are signs of a doubles partnership heading towards the tail end. I still vividly remember the days of Takahashi and Matsutomo in the tournaments before the former's retirement. They hardly high fived to motivate each other on or communicated. If one made a mistake, the other looked away; acting busy, etc. Felt uneasy to watch even as a spectator.

I watched excerpts from the match

and it is true that it is a little surprising. For example during the breaks, they are quite far from each other and Yuki shows a lot of frustration and annoyance especially at the end of the match.
It should be noted, however, that Sayaka has never been very demonstrative during a match. And the result of the match is still tight, they fought well and there is this interesting interview of the two players https://www.badspi.jp/202301301945/
Hope the next competitions are better

the consequences of a long partnership. takahashi/matsutomo, boe/mogensen, goh liu ying/chan peng soon and many more partnerships have had their rifts. it happens.

everything will be fine after their playing days are over.

Yeah the era of FukuHiro and NagaMatsu are kind of nearing the end. Sad part is Shida and Matsuyama aren't reliable or consistent enough to challenge for titles all the time.

The two are not even communicating on court. It's probably best they split the pair now.

rather amazing actually for a pair that cannot tolerate each other.
no communication and still reaching the finals of an international event.

They actually played surprisingly incredibly well (especially Hirota) in the SF against Rahayu/Ramadhanti. But too bad Fukushima appears to have picked up a slight shoulder injury thus the walkover against their JAP teammates in the F.

Imho they are like an old married couple who have known each other for decades. They don't need to slap hands or talk between points because they already know what each other are thinking.

There were no communications during the SF against INA.
INA pair were smart to hit the shuttle to the middle and both JPN players went for the same shuttle and almost hit each other.
Many a time, it looked like Hirota was waiting for Fukushima to react first before she (Hirota) takes action.

This pair is becoming like TQ/ZYL after 2015 :D No communication at all. There must be something wrong with them. I really hope they can get their act together; besides TakaMatsu, they are my favorite WD JPN pair.

There is always that slight hesitation which in the long run can cost points. It's like they're walking on egg shells.
Fukushima looks to be the one "wearing the pants" in the partnership.

The pair have just won the Badminton Asia Championships. It looks like they're somewhat talking again.
