He cannot go to a WTS1000 and expect to make good progress when in a comeback stage. 21-10 21-5 loss to CL is not helpfull. He needs to play WTS 100 and 300 to gradually try to improove.
Today in the Li-Ning Denmark challenge, being the no 1 seed Jorgensen lost in R1 to Kalle Koljonen of Finland 16-21 17-21 in 34 minutes.
I remember when I first got into watching competitive badminton back in 2016, Jorgensen was consistently world #2 for months on end until he just sort of fell off the world stage until recently and now he's back he doesn't seem to be playing as I remember, what happened to him? https://bwfworldchampionships.bwfbadminton.com/news-single/2017/08/01/injury-dashes-jorgensens-hopes A recurring heel injury and then he got a protected ranking, but failed to regain back his former form with a multitude of R1 and R2 exits, and now, we’re here today...
Good for him he did well in the recent Japan Open. It probably meant the the world to his confidence. I hope he can sustain and build upon this form, he's nice to watch IMO.
Jorgensen lost 21-8 21-5 to Axelsen today in Spain 300. Its not looking so good for his future, forget about the Olympics.
he told afterward that he got injured at the start of the match, he even asked to referee if he was allowed to redraw, but because both of them is from Denmark, he would get a penalty if he stopped the match. i haven't heard the result(not sure if they have been published yet), but he was going to get the back scanned this Monday.
he is stopping at the national elite center, and is gonna stop playing the biggest tournaments after Denmark Open. from what i understand, he i going to continue playing in the Danish League, and maybe play a few minor tournament. but this is a retirement from badminton on the highest level. EDIT: haven't add sources as all of them is in danish, but if needed feel free to ask.
Thanks, it's okay. It wouldn't be necessary BWF have to start re-thinking about their tournament system Seems like the priority kinda shifted between athletes
