I thought I'd record marketing refers to as being the strongest or most powerful yonex's racket? Was hoping for 30 or beyond.
These are usually just warrantied tensions. Some amateurs and pros have gone beyond these manufacturer recommended tensions on a lot of racket models not only AX99 and they're just fine. Only the strings snap but not the racket breaking. Sent from my SM-J320F using Tapatalk
Yes alot of rackets can go beyond recommended tensions but i really think those are in stress zone; some may have a higher stress zone of margin than others due ro their built and reinforced materials, some may not break with small increases or big increases and perhaps it might compromise the structural integrity of the frames in the long run or perhaps it's yonex's way of avoiding high volume warranty claims. I have seen a fair share of duora 10 breaking going above recommended tension. One thing clear imo is consumer confidence. And to market the ax99 as the most powerful racket in yonex's history. I think it should be warranted to handle 30 and beyond to match the claim. But good to see Yonex's recent releases showing an increased in recommended max tension. (half of my collection is yonex so no im not a hater )
Did a demo and bought the AX-99 today (won’t get it strung until tomorrow). My dealer had only the 4u version. I tried it alongside the 88d 3u and 4u. The racket I normally use is a voltric zforce ii 4u. These are my first impressions from the demo. The AX-99 felt very similar to the 88d but with a balance point more similar to the zforce ii. I would say the AX-99 is a more forgiving whippier version of the zforece ii. The 4u of the AX-99 felt beefier than the 3u 88d. The weight is very similar to that of the zforce ii.
This is exactly what I was hoping for from AX99! I normally use 3U Duora 10 and 4U ZFII. I recently tried Astrox 88s and really liked how it seemed to "bend," which I assumed was from the Namd. I don't have a dealer near me to try, but I pre ordered AX99 hoping that it will be similar to ZFII, but with that extra "bending" feel. "Whippier" is another way I would describe the bending, so yes. So far sounds great. Thank you for the review
I had some dry swings with the 99. It's very very similar to the 88D, but wow, the shaft is flexible! It's a lot more flexible than I thought, definitely more flexible than the 88D. Looking forward to demo days to see what it's like
I'm not quite sure tbh. Maybe 88S? The thing is, when flexing the racquet it's noticeable that the flex point is closer to the head. The shaft close to the cap doesn't flex much. Also, considering what namd does, I can only assume that any shot other than heavy smashes are going to feel solid and stiff. The flex only comes into play with hard swings.
The demo rackets i was using all had different grips so it was hard to compare exact weights. Even so, the 4u astrox 99 i felt was more comparable in weight to the 3u astrox 88d. After getting the astrox 99 with my setup and playing with it today, the balance point is definitely similar to the voltric zforce ii. All other aspects (like the flex and responsiveness) seem very similar to the 88d. With my short demo time comparing to the 88d, I couldn’t tell the difference the namd made in the head of the racket. I have now played a session with the ax-99... however idk if i like it alot because of the new frame or the fact that the head isn’t cracked like my old zforce ii so i can actually use it with high tension strings.
