Gotta say, these Olympic Games are the biggest joke I've ever seen. Inconsistent, biased judging in quite a few events, conditions are awful (swimmers complained about the water being pumped with chlorine, which they have to do since they can't keep it within pH limitations), and general attendance is laughable, with anything that doesn't have Brasilians in it being half empty or worse. But anyone who has come into contact with Brasilian sports fans will have noticed they dont give a damn about witnessing excellence and are only interested in watching fellow Brasilians.

Compared with Beijing'08 where Lin Dan was all-conquering and firing from all cylinders with gusto from the get-go in Day 1 of the competition all the way to the final day to grab gold, today's mature Lin Dan at Rio is just not the same person, it seems. Perhaps it's early days yet, the opening match against an easy opponent doesn't call for anything other than a relaxed normal, even ordinary, game , more as a warm-up to settle in for the real test that is to come later. Expect all the top guns to step it up from Day 2 when they take on their regular world class opponents.
