Lucky Wang Yihan to get to spar with the great maestro - if I'm not wrong (from what LD said in the video), they played to seven points only and WYH won, just edging out LD by reaching the finishing line first with an amazing cross-court return of LD's smash. Perhaps LD didn't take that sparring match seriously or underestimated his female opponent.

On LCW's doping scandal, LD as always is still in disbelief and continues to express the wish to see his perpetual great rival back to competition soon - the epithet 'great' is often on LD's lips whenever he refers to LCW, a point I gathered from the relevant articles and reports I've read.

Though LD says he's basically recovered from his knee injury, he is at about 70-80% of his level at the moment. Similarly, for Li Xuerui who was put on a cast for one-and-a-half months owing to a surface stress fracture on her leg, she may have recovered but is not expected to be at her best yet. No wonder Li Yongbo indicated he didn't expect both LD and LXR to perform well at the upcoming All England, it being their first and super-strong tournament after their long injury layoff. Personally, I should think they can play themselves into form soon enough as the tournaments go by.

The entire CHN team has just completed the 52-day winter training in Hainan without any break, not even for Chinese New Year, unlike previous years, particularly 2013 which I recall the whole team was 'rewarded' with a 9-day CNY rest period to go back to their respective hometowns for CNY celebrations. When the players were asked how they felt after the completion of the comprehensive training regimen and their expectations going forward, most of them expressed guarded satisfaction and cautious optimism, with Chen Long simply saying,'let's see how I perform at the All England'.

Out of concern for his recent knee injury from which he has just recovered, Lin Dan has in mind, if permission is granted (should be), to bring along his personal physical trainer (at his own expense) to the coming tournaments so that he need not have to waste time waiting for his turn at the end of each match to receive therapy from the one provided and paid for by the association . It shows how serious and careful Lin Dan is about staying injury-free all the way to the Rio Olympics. In his own words, the main purpose of bringing his own physical trainer is to ensure he does not get injured.

For this year, Lin Dan is setting himself a , what I 'd consider a modest, target of reaching the top 3 in world ranking. To achieve it, Lin Dan is aware of the necessity of playing in more tournaments, as many as he could though his top priority is to prevent any injury as far as possible for which should fatigue or risk of injury proves too much, he would be forced to consider skipping one or two tournaments. In view of this, he intends to take a holistic approach in planning and making fine adjustments to his tournament schedule month by month. At the same time, he knows that should he fall short of attaining his target this year, he would have to persist and work even harder next year in order to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

As Lin Dan puts it, his goals this year are:"One, to play more tournaments; two, at minimum risk of injury, to raise his world ranking." All the best to Lin Dan. JiaYou ! http://sports.qq.com/a/20150301/003173.htm

Thank you Justin for the translations. I can't see any problem with Lin Dan bringing his own personal physical trainer at his expense. China usually has a lot of players in the main tournaments counting in the men and ladies together.

You're welcome, actually I'm doing more of a summary of points , sometimes in my own words, sometimes the author's, instead of a full translation which is more time-consuming and demanding, esp when it's a long, wordy one as a few authors are wont to do, in particular the literary ones. I used to translate whole articles but of late, to save time and effort, I simply summarised the main points, only translating fully certain parts which I deem necessary, eg to quote the player's own words or present the author's admirable view justifiably.

To be frank, I occasionally come across certain articles that are so well-written and highly informative that I really wish to contribute my part by translating them in full but the thought that it is so lengthy (there was one almost 20 pages long) make me procrastinate until I lose heart and forget about it. However, if there are some parts that I believe are of great interest, relevance or importance to many of us , I'd at least do some extracts, selectively.

Sincerely and humbly, I still hope those of you more capable than me in translating do consider contributing your share as and when you have the time for the benefit of badminton fans in general, CHN fans in particular, so as to promote a better mutual understanding and give a more balanced and accurate picture of Chinese badminton, as well as help to prevent disinformation and misinformation from creating unnecessary conflicts and misguided ill will. I believe,as long as the necessary and correct information and facts are adequately provided and the other side or alternative views are heard can we then discern the truth, make good judgements and arrive at fair and just conclusions.

Last but not least, my deepest appreciation to those of you who have already contributed your translations, please continue your kind fruitful effort.

Right, I see no reason for CBA to disapprove or disallow Lin Dan to bring along his personal trainer. After all, he is paying for it and helping to lighten the provided trainers' workload except that we may overlook how some players feel about it. In any case, for most professional sports, example tennis, it is the norm.

I reckon Lin Dan will engage the services of that particularly physical trainer who was with him before, during and after the London Olympics and when he was having his two long breaks before his last comeback. It's definitely best for Lin Dan to have someone who knows him inside out, both his physical condition and his emotional as well as mental make-up.

Does Olympics have nationality separation in draws?

Or else Lin Dan and Chen Long will be required to take WR 1 and 2 to remain safe.

http://sports.sina.com.cn/o/2015-03-03/12077530405.shtml (an extract on Peter Gade's views and opinions)

Peter Gade says: Lin Dan is still currently the strongest, his only problem is whether he wants to win. (In other words, it's all up to Lin Dan.)

Although Lin Dan is already 31 years old, Peter Gade believes Lin Dan's prowess is sufficient to let him win another championship at the Rio Olympics, the same goes for this year's All England. PG added:" So long as he is in peak condition, I don't see any changes in the situation, he is still the best, a point he has already proven several times. If we talk about any problem he might have winning, then it is whether he wants to or not."

Furthermore, as far as Lin Dan is concerned, the difference in this year's AE has to do with Lee CW whose hearing for his doping incident has been repeatedly postponed resulting in his inability to participate till today, a situation which PG felt is rather bad. On LCW's case,PG opined:" We have to settle this matter, though there's no way of knowing if our particular action is right or not, no matter what method we use,we need to make a decision to resolve the issue."

After LCW's doping suspension, Chen Long rose to become MS world number one, even so PG does not rule out the possibility of his Danish colleagues winning the All England. He said:" Jorgensen is the best hope, but there are many others close to his standard, moreover he has not displayed consistency at a high level."

Olympic champ Lin Dan admits life is getting tougher

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom (AFP) - Olympic champion Lin Dan admits his task is becoming harder, even though his level went up a gear as he beat his Chinese compatriot and fellow left-hander Tian Houwei to reach the All-England championships quarter-finals on Thursday.

The legendary 31-year-old has not yet returned to his best after more than two years with limited competition, but his 21-15, 21-19 victory over Tian did elevate his standard above that of his tough struggle 24 hours earlier.

Lin had just two short phases when it seemed the former world junior champion from Fujian might seriously challenge him - when Tian repaired a four-point deficit and reached 14-14 in the first game and when the 23-year-old came from a three-point deficit in the second game and led 12-10.

Each time Lin found enough flashes of the exceptional - one disguised clip from the baseline which magically fell to the floor near the net, and one reflex cross-court block against a 180 mile-an-hour smash - to carry him to a respectable success.

But Lin was not particularly impressed with himself.

"I was much more relaxed because I was playing against a team mate," he said. "In terms of mentality there wasn't any pressure".

He was similarly candid about how hard is the task which confronts him in his bid for a third successive gold medal in Rio next year.

"Since the scoring changes of 2006 there has been a narrowing of the gap between the stronger and the weaker players," he said.

    "It has become more competitive."

Lin now plays Kento Momota, the unseeded but in-form Japanese player, who followed his defeat of the fourth-seeded Indian, Kidambi Srikanth, with a victory over the German, Marc Zwiebler, a former All-England semi-finalist.

If Lin comes through that he may face another compatriot, the top-seeded world champion Chen Long, who wasted no time in getting past Hsu Jen Hao of Taiwan, 21-7, 21-9.

    CREATIVE STROKES

Earlier, the other Olympic champion Li Xuerui suffered one of the most saddening defeats of her career, when she lost 21-13, 21-12 to Sun Yu, her young Chinese compatriot.

Li's wide range of creative strokes, so hard to contain when they are flowing, produced too many mistakes to allow much chance of survival.

It was quite different from when Li appeared as an unknown here in 2012 and won the All-England title, forcing her way belatedly into the Chinese squad, and paving a pathway to London where she won an Olympic gold medal.

"I haven't recovered properly from a foot injury and my feet really hurt," Li said.

"I've only been training normally for two weeks and I only came to this tournament because I love it. I didn't expect a lot. I just tried to come and enjoy the game."

Sun's quarter-final is against Ratchanok Intanon, the former world champion from Thailand who is still only just 20 and may be making another surge. She has lost only 41 points in four games.

In the same half another former world champion Wang Yihan made an intelligent and tenacious recovery to earn a quarter-final with Saina Nehwal, the third-seeded Indian.

Wang had leads of 16-9 and 20-18 taken away from her in the first game against the surprising Minatsu Mitani, but made difficult tactical adjustments to push on to a 21-23, 21-6, 21-16 win against the world number 17 from Japan.

"Tactically I kept more patient and played to the four corners and kept in the rally rather than take risks," Wang said.

    "And that was the key."

Normally it is the Chinese player's big smash which is the key, one which has helped create seven wins out of eight against Nehwal.

"I try to look at how opponents are catching me," Nehwal said, implying she has been studying ways to deal with Wang.

"Not many players catch me, but I am trying to improve."

What kind of sponsorship does LD have? He's wearing LN clothes but YY bag and some stencils on the rackets.

No one in the world can tell me he's using Z-force2 in the All England Open.
Hope he's gotten his own, well deserved racket from Yonex!

Hi Guys : Any of you watch lin dan vs Chen long. I guess he was not playing his best to shorten the game, so that Chen long will not be tired and enough rest against Jorgesen !
