Well said. Couldn't agree with you more. Let's hope Weng Hongyang can top it off with the champion's trophy tomorrow.
WHY played really well today and deserved to be in the final, hardly put a foot wrong showing a maturity beyond his years, consistent, sound defence and patient, powerful attacks to close out points, used the court well too, yeah…let’s hope he can lift the title tomorrow.
Net returns were too high, easily tapped down by LCY. Lost at least 5 points at the net. Qiao Bin kept instructing him to lift his net returns high to the back court.
Apart from LGZ the top chinese MS were eliminated from the Thailand tournament by players from India. Its very noticeable that the Indian players had very good smashes and also deception in their game. Chinas coaches tend to rely on the allround game, but if they meet up with players who have power and deception as well, its a losing strategy. In todays game you need both of those abilities to make the essential difference. WHY makes too many smashing mistakes, and all too frequently. And his smashes are not deceptive so it can be returned.
I've observed that in the Chinese camp, once you're tied down by some sort of injury that appears long term, the player just goes out of the spotlight for an extended period of time with no real news whatsoever. And then one fine day, BAM! "So and so has retired". Appears a lot to me like they are cornered into some sort of retirement after being benched for so long without any clear path for rehab, recovery and a clear comeback path. Li Yinhui, Du Yue (not certain if it's injury), Li Junhui, Wang Yilu just to name a few in recent times. Without Wang Yilu/HDP pairing, the Paris Olympics Gold is Zheng/Huang's to lose now!
But why? They could have helped them recover and come up with a comeback plan? Spain did so for Marin, hell China did too with SYQ, so why him and not the others?
SYQ not injured. He was very fortunate to get rehabilitated into the team. I really thought we had seen the end of him. He was rather lucky to get entry into the World championships even though not allowed to play for China for a year and also a lack of strong China singles players at the same time his ban ended. He took his chance and came up with some good performances that let him back into the team.
He was injured, his ankle injury was so severe, i think it affected his performance since then. He has recovered now though, i think the couple of months he was banned, they somehow helped him with it.
His ankle injury was way before the ban. The ban was not for a couple of months but nearly a year. https://english.news.cn/20220820/48061998a303422cab4e314193a85958/c.html
Do we know where is ZhaoJP? Haven’t seen him at all lately, he keeps withdrawing? Is he even trying for Paris?
Looking forward to the juniors playing in the Hangzhou international on the 20th. Hope to see a talent amongst them
