Shuttlers’ Olympics mission gets difficult as ABC postponed Monday, 08 Mar 2021 https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/ba...ympics-missiongets-difficult-as-abc-postponed PETALING JAYA: In what is a further blow to a group of shuttlers making last-ditch efforts to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, the Asia Badminton Championships (ABC) – slated from April 27-May 2 – has been postponed. Due to the complicated pandemic situation, Badminton Asia had decided to push back their flagship event until after the Tokyo Olympics in July – which means it would no longer be part of the Olympics qualifiers. The ABC became the second notable qualifier to be taken off the schedule following the cancellation of the German Open (initially scheduled for this week). Following the completion of the just-concluded Swiss Open, Olympics hopefuls are now left with just three remaining opportunities to collect points – at the Indian Open (May 11-16), Malaysian Open (May 25-30) and Singapore Open (June 1-6) – should they proceed as planned. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) made it clear last week that there will be no more changes made to the Race to Tokyo qualification process after they extended its deadline from May 2 to June 15. Although there was no official announcement made by Badminton Asia yet, the continental body had already disseminated an e-mail to their member associations to inform them about the ABC’s postponement last week. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Datuk Kenny Goh confirmed that they have been notified about the matter. The postponement of the Asian meet, however, did not come as a surprise as Badminton Asia had not been able to seek an alternative to replace China as the host. It was learnt that Suzhou was supposed to be the host city, but the country’s borders remain shut. Efforts to get other nations to host it also proved futile due to various travel restrictions imposed by respective governments in the continent. Earlier last month, Badminton Asia had also cancelled their Asia Mixed Team Championships due to the same reason. =============================================== *It becomes less and less tournament to count for Race of Tokyo, we'll need to wait whether the May/June BWF Tour would be proceed as planned. *As continental governing body Badminton Europe is miles better than Badminton Asia in terms of competency, preparation and respond.

how many points for the champion of european championships? i dont see the detail in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BWF_World_Ranking and its counted for both race to tokyo and race to huelva, right?
European Championships gold medalist will earn 9,200 points and yes it will be counted for Race of Tokyo and Huelva World Champs as well.
So at the European Championships you get points like in an HSBC 500 Tournament: 9200/7800/6420/6420/5040/5040/5040/5040/5040/ R16 = 3600 and cause there are no Asian Championships players from there can't get any points for the Race to Tokyo , right ? So for Tokyo it means we have left four important tournaments to qualify: HSBC 500 _ European Championships , India Open and Singapore Open HSBC 750 _ Malaysia Open 11000/9350/7700/7700/6050/6050/6050/6050/ R16 = 4320
- European Championships ~ S500 - A disadvantage for Asian players who can't earn valuable point from Continental Championships following BAC cancellation. - Yes, four tournaments left to grab in Race of Tokyo.
It’s more to do with the government and health authorities of European countries. They are more likely to be flexible working around covid to allow international sporting events to go ahead and have protocols for them in place. Football, after all, is a very expensive sport to be in lockdown. Asian countries are like “Keep covid and other mutations away because we can’t handle anymore outbreaks”
Yup, that's why Sudirman Cup has been postponed also BAC has not other option rather than cancellation, different nation ~ different perspective.
In India, COVID new cases are now really really bad. It’s not going to get better in 4 weeks. In Malaysia, seems COVID is not well controlled. Lots of social interaction going on. We may only see the Singapore Open going ahead.
BWF Breaking News : https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.c...4/19/yonex-sunrise-india-open-2021-postponed/ YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2021 Postponed Monday, April 19, 2021 TEXT BY BWF STAFF Tournament organisers Badminton Association of India (BAI) have postponed the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2021 scheduled for 11-16 May 2021. The decision was made in consultation and collaboration with local health authorities in Delhi and the Badminton World Federation. All attempts were made by organisers to conduct a safe tournament environment for all participants, but the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and gravity of the situation in Delhi left BAI no choice but to postpone the tournament. The YONEX-SUNRISE India Open is a Super 500 tournament on the HSBC BWF World Tour. _______
That removes a lot of uncertainty for players. Sad to see another tournament cancelled and it’s a huge boost for those competing in the European Championships. Malaysian players are getting their vaccinations done which I think is a good move.
Following IND Open postponement into uncertain times until further notice, it means this S500 tour will not longer part for Race of Tokyo anymore, players getting tense for the last two stops, MAS & SGP, particularly who standing at critical position in RTT.
With global restrictions on Indian travelers, I don't think they will be allowed to enter and play in Malaysia and Singapore .
But no other go. I think they will be needed to follow mandatory 14 days quarantine. Otherwise, It is extremely difficult for Srikanth , i think . Even for Saina as well
