Well, well deserved JAPAN!! Great teams they have!! I hoped to see RI win to make it exciting, after she lost there was no realistic hope. Well not true since there was for a great party of the first game in WD. But tbh Japan WD will win 90% if both are in similar form. It just was the nerves, but impressive how they got out of it! I really like seeing the world of Badminton getting closer an closer. Wouldn't mind seeing jpn beat a re- strengthend chn Thomas cup team
Why should Jindapol retired? One Chinese article most accurately described her and the entire THA Uber Cup team's attitude as "I will KEEP attacking even if I make mistakes!" -- and that's why the THA Uber team (alongside INA) has provided the most thrilling matches and performances! But it's clearly JPN vs the rest of the world now in women's badminton now, hahahah...
It's always a bit disappointing. You can still have an exciting 3-0 or 3-1 though if the matches themselves are tight, but that wasn't the case today either . Very one sided all the way.
I beg to differ. In the group stage you can afford to rotate the players with little to no risk esp when qualification to the knockout stage is assured or against a weak team, but not so in the elimination stage where strategic lineups and fielding the best players are essential with so much at stake. And then there is the issue GC and MF mentioned about a team winning an emotionally-charged victory over the fancied team and getting heady , therefore a day's break would be helpful in letting the exhilarated, perhaps over-exultant, players better prepare themselves mentally for the final title match.
I'm not saying Thailand should have won, or even done better. I think both teams could have done better. Only Nozomi Okuhara looked truly comfortable to me. I just want to watch good badminton, and I don't think any team should be punished for fighting too hard. In the finals I want to see the two teams at their best. There are downsides to having it too easy as well of course.
I think that is what we'll see. China is pretty strong again this time. I can only see Kento Momota winning really, but that's not guaranteed either. Japan would need Kento Momota and two upsets IMO.
You can do that when you're sponsoring the TUC and book the venue for as many days as you can afford...
If one extra day, once every two years is going to break the bank for the world champs, then I think badminton is in trouble.
I suddenly thought of Australian badminton, finally there is one boyish-looking WS Wendy Chen to watch out for. She certainly gave Michelle Li a scare who herself was playing remarkably well here.
I understand the sentiment. But I like it how badminton has its matches back to back everyday, it gives a different touch from other sports. Besides, if both Thai and Japanese had been equally fully rested and recovered, there is still no guarantee that the match would have gone tighter than what we had today.
It has been in trouble. Why do you think they have the minimum match participation requirement for the top players?
Yeah, but every year we get these "dreamers" making suggestions as if $$$ just drops from the sky every day...
Fair enough . But remember that the men are getting an extra day (is that a bad thing then?). It's not the biggest issue really. And yeah, a finals can be one-sided due to any number of reasons (other than ability). Nerves, pressure, fitness. It clearly wasn't just fitness that was responsible for the quality of the matches today.
LOL, even coach Jeremy Gan from MAS has become a Uber Cup Champion! Can we start counting how many World Champions has been "created" by Park Joo Bong -- a "statistic" that Li Yongbo and CHN fans are always boasting about? 10+ for 2014 Thomas Cup, another 10+ for 2018 Uber Cup, etc..
