A historical moment was made yesterday by Thailand women's team who demontsrated amazing performance to topple and break China fantastic record in Uber Cup long history. Fourteen-time champion China fails to enter grand final for the first time since their initial participation 34 years ago, back to 1984 edition.
Thailand sensational victory is contributed by their singles players, Ratchanok Intanon implemented right tactic to overcome Chen Yufei whom she never beat before in four previous meetings. Then reigning world champion Chen QC/Jia YF level the scoreline 1-1 after edge out Kititharakul/Prajongjai, 21-17 / 22-20. Nitchaon Jindapol delivered crucial point for Thai team, defeats the inexperienced Gao Fangjie in 91 minutes of play, 19-21 / 21-19 / 21-12. China second doubles fought hard to keep their team alive, Huang YQ/Tang JH steely determination and inspiring feat beat Supajirakul/Taerattanachai, 24-26 / 21-17 / 21-18 in very tiring match that hitted 99 minutes. An anticlimax instead of epic ending colouring the last match between Li Xuerui against Busanan Ongbamrungphan, the on-fire Thai youngster outclassed 2012 Olympic Champion who playing like a novice, passionless and succumbed meekly, 21-11 / 21-9. It seems backfire strategy for China to call back Li Xuerui who can't do too much and scores significant result here. Her surprising defeat to Ruselli Hartawan is questionable and enough to explain her present performance.
At court 2, overwhelming favourite Japan has lighter effort to knock out 2010 winner Korea, 3-1. Akane Yamaguchi outmaneuvered the inconsistent and fragile Sung Ji Hyun, 21-10 / 21-13. Korea showed their antics to steal point through scratch pair Kim SY/Shin SC who played aggressively and confused Fukushima/Hirota, 21-19 / 21-15. World Champion Nozomi Okuhara exhibited her class to eliminate Lee Jang Mi, 21-9 / 21-15. Then the Olympic Champion secured final spot for Japan, Matsutomo/Takahashi are too strong for reigning WJC and potential youngsters, Baek HN/Lee YR, 21-11 / 17-21 / 21-14. Credit to this juniors fighting spirit to push their top-ranked opponent work harder.

*Thailand coach splits their two permanent pairs with expectation to confuse and surprise Japan as Korea did yesterday when Kim/Shin beat Fukushima/Hirota.
Overall, it's an uphill task for Thailand to create another milestone and lift the coveted trophy for the first time and ruin Japan's dream to reclaim Uber Cup, they last time won in 1981. Japan has more depth in their singles and doubles as well. Ratchanok Intanon may steal opening match against Akane Yamaguchi, but it could be tougher in next three matches for Thai team based on normal scenario but the nothing to lose and fully supported by homecrowd will boost the host to make it happen. Will Japan win Uber Cup for six times or we see new champion today?
