Generally the AX77 is lighter, not as head heavy and stiff as the TK9900. Much easier to use but not as powerful... depending on your swing technique.
Hi Guys : Any of you know what string and tension does Marcus Gideon put on his racket Astrox 77? Thanks
Reviews below it’s based to my own preferences & playing styles. My Profile : Duora Z-Strike 3UG5 with BG80 @ 30lbs. ASTROX 77 - NO longer compact frame - NO longer tuck in grommet - Interesting 2+4 grommet system - Mid flex shaft Flex : Mid Flex Spec : 4UG5 Grip : AC102EX Overgrip Tension : BG66UM @ 28lbs (PS 20%) Transition : Stick with my Duora z-strike for quite some time. First impression with Astrox 77 in dry swing the feeling is comfortable and the speed of swing it's really fast. Since Astrox series it's out to replace Voltric. So I assume it's HH series, and goes to 4U to save my wrist, but No. Head weight it's even lighter than my DZS, it's a little out of my expectations. Clears : A bit surprising in this part. Mid Flex shaft but give me the solid feels like my DZS. Netplay : Such a sensible touch & control in netplay. Definitely for Momota's hairpin shot lover. Drives : The most brilliant part to highlight on this racket. I never try any of Yonex racket can drive as good as this. Very fast and the feels it's just like holding Victor BS12 on hand. Extremely fast and responsive. Smashes : Quite disappointed here. I think headlight issued, my smashes a little out of timing & the power totally dull. Steeper angle of smashes ? Yes, i would say. But the smashes that lack of power it's nothing. I guess if it's 3UG5 will be slightly better. Strongly advice to get 3UG5 more over 4UG5. Conclusion : The feels like a faster & stiffer version of LDF, but lighter head weight in swing. It's a very easy to use. Will I buy ? No. I'll wait for Astrox 88 / Astrox Force in matte finish over than Gloss.
Hm, anyone can comment this Astrox 77 versus NS9900? Currently using NS9900 which is 3U light head but would like to look for alternative for a balance/heavy head, maybe a 4U one so that it won't be too taxing on the wrist... Tried a 3U Duora 88 but somehow felt a bit sluggish for me in quick rally... EDIT: Updated rackets matrix, so Astrox a new category is in between Voltric and Duora?
Where do you see this? Looks pretty much like a perfect replacement for the Voltric range. AX88 and AXZ* might be interesting then..... Also, it looks like they forgot to check some layers before exporting the image.
From Yonex website:http://www.yonex.com/products/badminton-racquet-matrix/ Kind of in doubt to go for this or Arc11...
I meant: Where do you see the Astrox range to be in between Voltric and Duora? To me it looks like the Astrox models replace certain Voltric models. With more models to come, of course. It still looks like a premature release with the background and the description for the axis missing.
@TankQ86 if you are using that matrix, ime the NS9900 slots between NR800 and NR900 in head heaviness and between NR900 and NR-ZS for stiffness
http://sticksmash.com/2017/10/03/yonex-astrox-77-badminton-racket-detailed-review/ sticksmash just did a detailed review. Very informative.
*Note the X-axis is Soft to Hard Feel from left to right while Y-axis is Light to Heavy head from bottom to top. Well, i'm just looking at the head heaviness which is place in between and the flex that's more towards the medium flex instead of the stiff side? Maybe will need to see more future model to judge to see if more will come out with the stiffer flex and heavy head range...
Going by the racket matrix and specs, it looks like it's placed similary to where the li ning N9II would be around.
In 4u form, the AX could be fast enough to match the 3u NS9900 but you still have to deal with the floppiness of a mid-flex if you're used to the solid and direct response of a stiff racquet. Still, it's an easy racquet to handle from the get go. No quirks.
His family own a badminton shop at TANGKAS sport center in Jakarta. Met him few times when he was a kid and spoke with his mom at the shop I can ask his mom when I visit her shop
