No intend to offend anyone. I see that badminton players in general never want to teach beginners because they think one day those beginners will be better than them. Is it because of our Asian's gene? just like Asian are more likely good at Math???? Why are Asians selfish when it come to badminton? or any other subjects?
why do you think that way? I have seen many Asians who are more than happy to teach people a lesson in badminton. And I mean it in the good way.
Imho it's more like most people are afraid of offering advice for fear of offending or being rejected. The onus is up to the beginner to ask for advice first. And when asked, most people will help out.
Here is my own personal experience. My Asian coach in high school taught me the wrong foot work. Let say I stand in the middle of the court and run to front right corner. He told me to use left foot first and then right. That was so wrong, the fastest way is to shuffle to the front right corner. Am I right? A member in my team tricked me to use more back hand in games. This is how he tricked me. He said "wow, why your backhand is so powerful, your backhand is more powerful than mine". This made me think that my backhand is powerful and I used to backhand whenever the birdie was on my left. That is like my first/second month playing badminton and I didn't know to use my thumb on my grip when back hand at all. You can imagine how weak my backhand was at that time.
Your comments is biased and absolutely unfair to generalize certain race/people/religion based on your own personal experience. For me, I have no problem learning badminton tactics, skills and techniques from my Asian friends. They are more than happy to guide and teach as long as I am willing to learn and listen. Sometimes, they are reluctant to teach due to our own attitude, ego, and pride.
So you think your coach purposefully teach you a wrong foot work? And your friend might just want to encourage you and boost your confidence.
me think its more to do with the fact that more asians play the game. perhaps what is being allured to - better players tend to be snooty toward lower std players. i have come across players who would walk off the court when they see me coming on to take a spot playing doubles. i would give them the benefit of doubt initially; but once i have established their snooty attitude, i will go out of my way to ignore them - like refuse to play when they are short on numbers.
Tbh it's not fun playing doubles with/against people who are too much below in skill and ability that it can't even be a competitive game. It's not snootiness, it's just a waste of time and what person wants to waste their time. You can see it as a challenge to improve. We have this beginner guy, at first I would play with him and offer tips but as time goes on, he don't seem to ever put in the time to improve so I would always walk off when he comes on. No point wasting my time, would rather play the next game since many people take turn using the court.
He taught you the correct footwork. Your backhand must be better than your teammate. I think you generally have a suspicious nature in general thinking that any person is trying to take advantage of you or put you down. You don't give people the benefit of the doubt and think your opinion is invariably the correct one. With that attitude, how can you learn? How can you even expect anybody to teach you anything if you are skeptical of them? None of us would want to teach a person who doesn't believe in the teacher.
Can anyone imagine a 2 month beginner holds the racket incorrectly, didn't pressing the thumb against the grip and do a back hand?????? I hate manipulative people like that, I see them all the time. You sound like you never meet hypocrites before, interesting......
It might seem to other posters that I am being a little judgemental. This following thread will explain why http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php/137432-Is-ariffd93-a-trustworthy-member?highlight=
I dont make sh** up for no reason, I got scammed before http://i.imgur.com/U8YQbZd.png ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://i.imgur.com/i9Ge3Vu.png ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://i.imgur.com/YNF0VIu.png
What is the actual topic to discuss in this thread? A "scammed case when dealing through ebay" or "Why Asians are more selfish when it come to teaching badminton"?
It is more like a merge topic now for discussion i presume - "Why Asians are more selfish when it come to teaching badminton and selling badminton racket"...........
True, even LCW old coach teach the left foot first footwork for a right hander going for the front right corner. But again there are those that prefer the chase method. It's man walking versus crab walking method. You can also see the footwork differences between China and Indonesia players (generally).
I think we have moved on from that case but it shows that the original poster is willing to think the worst of people before getting more information and a better picture on things.
If you don't like them, why bother to ask from them ? Go get your own personal Caucasian coach and see if he can fulfil your needs. People move on, so should you. P/S : have you seen Lee Jae Bok's coaching video ? Not everyone prefer his method.
