I actually voted for Chong Wei Feng not making it. I think the reasons for selection given by BAM in the news report are pretty reasonable. Timing was pretty good as well - off the back of an unexpected win in Sudirman Cup.
well, try to tell the poor guy. higher ranking, yes. (>ZZ & LCW) more experience and better tournaments record, yes. (> ZZ) youth, yes. (> LCW)
In the end, a no-brainer after LCW's debut showing at the Sudirman Cup, just what BAM needed for LCW's justification. As for CWF, he had two chances, unsuccessfully, and in the spirit of giving the younger players an opportunity, Zulfadli Zulkifli it shall be. Good guess, AlanY, though I'm not sure if it had anything to do with MAS politics. Personally, tbh, I'd rather have LCW than either of the other two at the world championships as befitting its status where all the most worthy and main contenders should be crossing swords.
You know nothing Justin. Race based favors are so institutionalized in Malaysia that they are pathetic.
For sure CWF will feel sore about it but he has himself to blame partly; his form has been lacklustre recently, and his two world championship attempts were disappointing although on the first occasion he was stopped by Lin Dan in 2013.
I would have dropped CWF, really. He is not going anywhere. Everytime after a lost, he would say I know where I went wrong and will bounce back. And this has been going on over and over again. It's not a difficult decision.
To be frank, actually I am well aware of it, the Bhumiputra policy, so-called affirmative action, as expounded in the controversial book, The Malay Dilemma, written by ex-PM Dr Mahathir.
The guessing game is over, Chong Wei Feng is left out of World Championship. Lee Chong Wei and Zulfadli get the two precoius berths to Jakarta. Personally, I think Lee Chong Wei should have given the chance to his junior, CWF. This is not about fighting for honour but the price Lee Chong Wei has to pay for negligence. Please don't get me wrong, as much as I want Malaysia to win the first gold medal, I still feel that LCW personally has to be bear the consequences of negligence. http://www.orientaldaily.com.my/index.php/nation/gn201440479
We can guess what you mean but the language deserve your thought. It is not race, it is ethnic group, it is not favors, it is counter-balance force, and how can an official policy can be termed pathetic because it is institutionalized? The policy can be pathetic, but surely not because it is institutionalized!
Interesting pot of culture though. The word bhumiputra is a Sanskrit Indian word used in a Muslim dominated country where the players concerned is of Chinese origin malay and USA born malay.
My initial suggestion was to hold a three way selection process. Any decision without that can be pulled apart. You can go into myriads of circular arguments if there was no three way selection process.
to hold a 3-ways selection process after 'the one' failed to qualify! it's still not looks good, you can't change the rule half way thro' and whenever suit you!
ok, he failed to qualify by right but eligible to be selected by being on the ranking list, same as the 2000+ players on the list
i share your view... poor CWF... to me, this is no difference in nature with the infamous China's internal order to ask player B to lose to player A in order to have better chance of winning a champion for China, i.e. this demonstrates team interest still prevails in the sports of badminton in every country, not only China. only difference is the level and timing of doing that... so in future, don't jump up and down on any WOs to teammates, or alleging player X not playing with full effort with teammate playet Y, coz this is just like a quote taught by my Chinese friend, "the 50-steps laughing at the 100-steps", a thief is a thief whether your steal $1 or $1M... what a hopeless sports...
